Carson recall vote back in motion

“If an election were to be held, the vast majority of the city of Carson would not favor a recall, especially due to the fact that I am running for re-election in March”

Carson Mayor Jim Dear is all but certain to face a recall election in late August or early September after a judge ruled Friday that his petition withdrawal cards were invalid. via Daily Breeze

It's like that city is on auto pilot. Its city services go on functioning without effective leadership. It's a good thing the worker bees have their own work ethic. Lord knows they don't get it from the city's leadership.

the recall should extend to all of these "nimrods". they have suceeded in turning carson into a "banana republic" with their incessant bickering, lawsuits, and public sparring. the trust the voters placed in this dysfunctional lot has been betrayed.

This is a clear victory for the people of Carson. This Mayor has played with races and people long enough - more expose's will follow this ruling which upholds the people's voting rights. No appeal can deny one simple fact - thousands are fed up with this Mayor. Enough said let us get new and honest leadership now and move forward.

I truly do not know what to expect from our governing body. We have councilwomen Lula Davis-Holmes alleging that Mayor Jim Dear called her a “B!tch”; and it is more then obvious that they despise each other! Just watch their demeanor during each city council sessions if you don’t get the point! Totally Ghetto!!!

We then have the Dewitt & Schafer paper head slap matter which displayed appalling conduct my Dewitt and and an Oscar winning performance by Schafer with her fake delayed fall to the ground!(Pathetic)

And our illustrious fast talking Councilman Mike Gipson who's political ambition is what drives him and not his love for the City of Carson. The Daily Breeze wrote an article about questionable campaign contributions from a law firm that was trying to do business with the City of Carson. It is no wonder why Gipson lost to Furutani in their assembly race because most people can see what Mike Gipson is all about!

Lets not forget Councilman Elito Santarina who is a retired Teacher for the L.A.U.S.D. and who barely has command of the English language and who is often very difficult to understand. I hear him ramble at times during sessions and wonder how he ever obtained a teaching job or get elected. It is no surprise though because most Carson residents vote along racial lines and these are the consequences!

Councilman Harold Williams is an enigma onto himself and has been known to flip flop. One really does not know where he stands! Sometimes he is incoherent as to the issues at hand.......

Last but not Least Mayor Jim Dear who has given our city away to big business and developers, adding to our city’s huge deficit. This man has No Business Acumen at all! Well maybe if he is looking for future political donations down the line!

And yet we vote for these people! No doubt a consequence of the polluted air we Carson residents breathe as a result of the Oil Refineries and numerous Chemical plants in the area!

sad for the people of the city that it does not have good representation at the council. if dear is recalled, lula davis-holmes and mike gipson are the next likely mayoral candidates. these two are for themselves and they will not represent all the diverse ethnicity within carson. these two are known for pushing to promote employees belonging to one certain type only. carson residents must wake up and what is good for all of them and not listen to the politicans and labor unions that buy these politicians.

And all of this will cost the Carson taxpayers HOW much money? If Dear is up for re-election in March of 09, why not just wait until then and vote someone else into office? The cost of the recall is way too much money to spend for what will only be a relatively short period of time. The forcing of this recall by Dewitt sounds personal and vindictive instead of for the betterment of Carson citizens. If she truly wants to help Carson, drop the recall, save the $200,000 cost to the taxpayers, and vote Dear out of the picture next March. Why is that such a difficult concept?

Sounds as if you have a pretty good handle on Carson politics. Why aren't you running for office? I don't mean that sarcastically, but realistically. Why not? No one could do worse than what I've seen the current governing body do.

I totally agree with you that they should just vote him out of office in 2009 and save the city money and further embarrassments!

I would certainly do a better job then our existing governing body but the bottom line is that Carson residents large voting blocks seem to cast their vote based on Race and Ethnicity. We have Blacks and Filipino voting blocks choosing their candidates based on RACE and not ability! Then we have the anomaly that is Jim Dear!

Our politicians are failing miserably to govern the City Of Carson yet they have higher political aspirations.

They should all understand that if you fail in Carson what makes them think they will be elected for another political office!!! I haven’t seen any Compton or Lynwood politician obtain a higher political position! Have you? That is because they have failed in their respective communities!

Mayor Dear is in denial. If you watch the city council meeting, it becomes apparent he does not have the ability to lead his fellow council members. His leadership style seems to be "my way or the highway". When he had Julie Raber to second everything, this style worked. Now council members are questioning hsi decisions. In an independent deomcracy you have to compromise and create a consensus.

In addition, while Dear has been on the council the city has overspent its budget by about $20 million. This year a projected $3 million plus deficit is projected. There doesn't seem to be any sense of urgency to balance revenues with spending. Do I hear bankruptcy?

Dear is also leading the $110 million subsidy of the mall developer on the landfill. If private investors won't put money in the project why should Carson bet on the mall.

We will see if Dear is as popular as he thinks he is.

Jim Dear and the City Council would rather place a Utility Tax of sorts Carson residents to generate revenue instead of getting money from the businesses and robber barons that are raping the City of Carson!

After all, these big businesses are contributing LOTS OF MONEY to their campaigns! The average Carson resident does not have a chance!

You're absolutly wrong prophet. It is Lulu Davis-Holmes and Mike Gipson who favor taxing the residents of Carson. I heard them say it at a Town Hall meeting at Mills Park. They both said they favor taxing businesses and residents with a Utility Users Tax and an increase in the sales tax.

By the way I just wrote the truth about this recall a few minutes ago and it did not appear. I wonder if the breeze is bias.

Hey concerned resident: Julie Ruiz-Raber only seconded items that she thought were good for Carson. And there was a unanimous vote on the land fill site. You know what the City is going to make a lot of revenue on that development and by the way, our city would have to pay to clean up the site anyway. You know what, Mike and Lulu want to tax us and not the businesses.

Discount Tickets! Just bring in a video showing you popping someone in the head with a harmless pile of papers or of you screaming in pain (after a long pause) after being hit by a few sheets of paper at a Carson City Hall council meeting and you will receive free tickets to the Carson City Circus. You might even receive thousands of dollars with your horrible performance of a fictitious personal injury! Step right folks, hurry, hurry. See the saddest show in town. Let the sideshow begin!

Jim Dear has given away the City to big business and developers. As far as his Crony & co-conspirator Ruiz-Raber his sock puppet no more need be said!

If you have read my prior post you should know or surmise how I feel about Lula & Mike!

Despite Mayor Dear and our Dysfunctional Council, I believe that we should just vote him out of office when his term expires instead of wasting funds to remove him from office; and further taint the city’s reputation. We are already the joke of the south bay so why bring further negative attention to our city.
