Hortencia is a sample to us all of what can be done if we do not limit ourselves by what others say. We will miss you Hortensia but your legacy will carry on!

I think the page is having trouble reading Latin letters. Magana (won't read the Latin n) was her last name.

My condolences to the family. We have been loyal customers to the Carson Restaurant for 2 generations.
With that said and since this is a public forum, I have to make a few comments. The writer of this article did the woman and her family a great disservice. It was nice that she was a "Latino Activist". Activist of what? She was a multi millionaire. She is also an example of the fact that ANYONE in the US can be successful. All she did was make the right choices. Whenever I see the word "activist" and it is related to race, it is code for racist. In other words this woman was a Latino Racist. Shifting gears here, what would a White Activist be? Come to think of it, the article failed to mention that she was not an equal opportunity employer. I don't think I have ever seen a White or Black American working in her restaurants. Maybe I just missed them. Most of the time the employees didn't speak English. The other thing that gripes me about this article is the fact that there is not one mention of how grateful she might have been for the opportunity afforded her by this great nation. No, not one mention of it. Was she proud to be an American? |

SHES ACCOMPLISHED A LOT MORE FOR THIS COUNTRY THAN "YOUR SORRY PEABRAIN GRIPING ARSE"..P.S. "LOYAL CUSTOMER FOR 2 GENERATIONS", YOU WERENT GRIPING WHEN YOU WERE EATING HER FOOD, AND AS FAR AS THE MEXICAN WORKERS, ITS A MEXICAN RESTAURANT, DUH.. |

This article represents a wasted opportunity to bring Americans together. Magana could have been portrayed as successful American immigrant entrepreneur. Instead, she's a "Latino activist". Why does her race matter? The point of view expressed in this article should be condemned. We don't need further divisions in our society.

A "Latino Activist" Why is that mentioned? If a white woman from Europe came here and was a "White or Caucasian Activist" who only employed other Whites would be labeled racist. This is why there are certain comments on this forum that question the articles content. Race should play no part in this woman's outstanding achievements.
