Hey Hempburn, I love the sights you see on the back of a Harley, you never see them in a car. I prefer riding, that way I don't have to pay attention and watch out for all the idiots on the road. You are right, I am off a couple days lending support to someone close who lost their mother and it looks like they sent out a troll family reunion invite out. How disgusting. I thought the same thing when I read that article. It sounds like the things this nasty crew would do. I will continue to post my GODvine and articles like they are not here. I am not wasting my time reading their filth, nor will I read the filth from their hometown. What a disgrace these lowlifes are to the State of Kentucky. Hope they get theirs real soon. Have a great ride.
Humpastumpburn has already had the ride, moron. DUI, again. He just got out of the drunk tank. You can see the same sights he did, just guzzle the booze and flip off a cop.

What exactly is your agenda Mr. Farter? I have read a good number of your posts and you are reasonably intelligent, maybe more? Why do you feel it is your mission to stop these people on here from chatting about what they want too? How many places can you and your friends talk other than here? Most of the “regulars” are just good people talking about how they perceive things to be! I actually agree with them, if you would give them a chance, who knows? What have any of them done to you? I believe you are smart enough to know what you are doing is wrong? Look inside yourself, deeply; before you come back with some smart ass bullshit

There he goes with his inability to discern truth from false assumptions. I never said I did not read some of his garbage, I just said I could ignore it and I CAN.

He keeps harping on someone having a couple of beers, yet fails to realize that there are many other addictions beside alcoholism. Being obsessed with sitting on computer and wise cracking in an attempt to impress those of less fortunate education... is an addiction. No, it is not as bad as alcoholism, but it is still an addiction.

Now I am out of here to go fix my pizza and enjoy the evening with my friend.

Couldn't help but notice the 2012 apocalypse shows are hitting the TV schedule once again. So it got me to wondering.

Who on here actually believes there will be a SHTF event on 12/12/2012?

If you think it will happen, do you think it will happen on 12/12, which is the last day of the Mayan calender or will it happen on 12/13 which is the day after the end of the Mayan Calender?

IMHO, all the will happen is that the Mayan calender will end just like our 2012 calender will end on the 31st and we will just start the 2013 calender.

All tho I do believe we are living in risky times and other SHTF sceneries could happen. Maybe a big rock from space, Super Volcano, Global Warming changing local climates, financial breakdowns or energy crisis could happen.

So I prepare just in case I survive if something should happen. But I don't spend my whole life focused on it.

Hey Prepper, I think the SHTF will come to some degree as the earthquakes, dead birds/fish, volcanoes, weather, etc...that Earth is trying to tell us. Glad we are prepared for some of it thanks to all the suggestions and list we made last year. I sure miss Hicky when it comes to the space implications. Such as this:

4,700 potentially dangerous asteroids lurk near Earth, NASA says

A new NASA survey has pinned down the number of asteroids that could pose a collision threat to Earth in what scientists say is the best estimate yet of the potentially dangerous space rocks.

The survey found there are likely 4,700 potentially hazardous asteroids, plus or minus 1,500 space rocks, that are larger than 330 feet (100 meters) wide and in orbits that occasionally bring them close enough to Earth to pose a concern, researchers said. To date, only about 30 percent of those objects have actually been found, they added.

Potentially hazardous asteroids, or PHAs in NASA-speak, are space rocks in orbits that come within 5 million miles (8 million kilometers) of Earth and are large enough to cause damage on regional or global scale if they were ever to hit our planet.

The new study was based on observations from NASA's Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE), an infrared space telescope. While the telescope data returned an estimate of the potentially dangerous near-Earth asteroid population that is similar to previous projections, it also revealed some surprising new results.

According to the survey, about twice as many asteroids are in so-called "lower-inclination orbits" — which are more closely aligned with Earth's path around the sun than other objects — than previously thought researchers said.[Video: WISE Telescope's Asteroid Census]

"A possible explanation is that many of the PHAs may have originated from a collision between two asteroids in the main belt lying between Mars and Jupiter," NASA officials explained in a statement. "A larger body with a low-inclination orbit may have broken up in the main belt, causing some of the fragments to drift into orbits closer to Earth and eventually become PHAs."

Those low-inclination space rocks also appear to be smaller and brighter than other near-Earth asteroids and are more likely to encounter Earth, researchers said.

"Our team was surprised to find the overabundance of low-inclination PHAs," Amy Mainzer, of NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif., said in a statement. Mainzer is principal investigator of WISE's asteroid-hunting mission, which is called NEOWISE.

"Because they will tend to make more close approaches to Earth, these targets can provide the best opportunities for the next generation of human and robotic exploration."

Scientists made the new near-Earth asteroid estimate based on observations of 107 asteroids by WISE, which launched in 2009 and mapped the entire sky twice before ending its primary mission in 2011. Before shutting down, the observatory made a concerted search for near-Earth asteroids as part of an extended mission dubbed NEOWISE.

The $320 million WISE telescope snapped images of about 600 near-Earth asteroids, with about 135 of them being completely new discoveries. The telescope also observed millions of other objects, including distant galaxies and star nurseries.

"NASA's NEOWISE project, which wasn't originally planned as part of WISE, has turned out to be a huge bonus," Mainzer said. "Everything we can learn about these objects helps us understand their origins and fate."

During its asteroid hunt, the WISE telescope searched for space rocks within about120 million miles (195 million km) of the sun. For comparison, the Earth is about 93 million miles (150 million km) from the sun.

The data from NEOWISE, when combined with other asteroid data observations, helped NASA announce in 2010 that about 90 percent of the largest near-Earth asteroids that come close to our planet had been identified.

The new survey's results will be detailed in an upcoming edition of the Astrophysical Journal.

BIRD STORY for Hempburn:

Falcons are living the high life on the roof of Trump Plaza

Folks move to the 40-story Trump Plaza New Rochelle just outside NYC to experience the "Trump lifestyle" without the big-city bustle. Two peregrine falcons, once rare in this area, have opted for the views there, building a nest on the structure's rooftop and waiting for their four eggs to hatch. There's some concern that the eggs may be damaged from water on the roof, so Trump's employees are considering building a nest box to help protect them. Not surprisingly (for Trump), staff is also considering installing a webcam to film the birds for human entertainment. "They want to be in Trump (Plaza)," says Vincent La Rocco, the building's chief engineer. "High-class falcons, I guess."

For the babyboomers:
CDC to Baby Boomers: Get Tested for Hepatitis C
ATLANTA May 18, 2012 (AP)

For the first time, the government is proposing that all baby boomers get tested for hepatitis C.
Anyone born from 1945 to 1965 should get a one-time blood test to see if they have the liver-destroying virus, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said in draft recommendations issued Friday.

Baby boomers account for more than 2 million of the 3.2 million Americans infected with the blood-borne virus. It can take decades to cause liver damage, and many people don't know they're infected.

CDC officials believe the new measure could lead 800,000 more baby boomers to get treatment and could save more than 120,000 lives.

But as many as a quarter of infected baby boomers say they don't recall engaging in a risky behavior.
It's possible some people were infected in ways other than injection drug use or long-ago blood transfusions. Some experts say tattoos, piercings, shared razor blades and toothbrushes, manicures and sniffed cocaine may have caused the virus to spread in some cases.

All those earthquakes must be moving enough underwater to stir up .....

200-year-old shipwreck found in Gulf of Mexico

May 18, 2012, 05.04PM IST
WASHINGTON: A 19th century shipwreck has been discovered off the coast of the Gulf of Mexico during a scientific expedition led by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management.

Researchers, working from the NOAA ship Okeanos Explorer, first found remnants of the wooden-hulled vessel that is believed to be about 200 years old.

Using underwater robots and high definition cameras, scientists later found a wealth of artifacts, including anchors, navigation equipment, glass bottles, ceramic plates, an iron stove, cannons and a box of muskets in and around the wreck.

"This discovery was part of a larger mission to look at unknown or poorly-known areas in the Gulf of Mexico," ABC News quoted Frank Cantelas, a maritime archaeologist with NOAA's Office of Ocean Exploration and Research, as saying.

NOAA said, "the 56-day expedition that ended April 29 was exploring poorly known regions of the Gulf, mapping and imaging unknown or little-known features and habitats, developing and testing a method to measure the rate that gas rises from naturally-occurring seeps on the seafloor, and investigating potential shipwreck sites."

Using sonar technology, researchers had a first look, which at last turned out to be the site of the shipwreck.

According to Cantelas, Shell Oil Company was conducting an oil and gas survey required by the government to be sure none of its projects are disturbing anything sensitive in the ocean.

"The site is in over 4,000 feet of water and we knew nothing about it -- we just had a fuzzy image from a sonar recording, which is like a camera but uses sound instead of light. But we wanted to see what it was because it was shaped like it could be a shipwreck," Cantelas said.

So, NOAA partnered with the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM), which issues permits for bottom-disturbing activities related to oil and gas exploration, to find the 200-year-old shipwreck.

The ship used telepresence technology to transmit what was happening on the ship live.

"Telepresence provides the ability to bring a lot of different specialists, who have various expertise, to the table during the dive," said Fred Gorell, public affairs officer for NOAA's office of Exploration and Research.

"They could actually look at the wreck sites while it was happening. And this way research is not limited by the number of people who are actually on the ship," he explained.

Jack Irion, a maritime archaeologist with BOEM, stated in a NOAA statement "Artifacts in and around the wreck and the hull's copper sheathing may date the vessel to the early to mid-19th century."

"Some of the more datable objects include what appears to be a type of ceramic plate that was popular between 1800 and 1830, and a wide variety of glass bottles. A rare ship's stove on the site is one of only a handful of surviving examples in the world and the second one found on a shipwreck in the Gulf of Mexico," he added.

Now, researchers hope this discovery will help in other areas.

"Archaeologically, this is a very significant find. It appears to date back to the early 1800s and a lot was going on in the Gulf of Mexico around that time. You have the Louisiana Purchase, the Texas Revolution, the Mexican-American War -- a lot of conflict in that region...So this research will hopefully help us fill in the blank pages of history. It will provide information that we don't really know about the history of the Gulf region," Cantelas said.

Daily Horoscope for May 25

Aquarius

You're very feisty and energetic and there's a lot you want to achieve. You'll get rather impatient if anyone stands in your way. A close emotional relationship will either be sexy and exciting beyond belief, or bad-tempered and tetchy. If you're in a grumpy mood, try to work out why - and what would improve matters. One thing that's bound to help is physical exercise, because it will burn off any excess nervous energy.
