I am watching the Dateline episode as I'm typing this, and I find it quite disturbing! To think that Jonathan was convicted due to saying Amy fell in a ditch! Wow! Chris sat on this episode stating numerous facts that were crucial to the case, and he get's involuntary manslaughter! What is wrong with the system? I thought mental illness was only allowed to be used when the defendant doesn't know the difference between right, and wrong, which clearly he knows the difference or he wouldn't have attempted suicide! I think it's extremely cruel and ignorant to blame the father of this little girl. I find myself watching the episode thinking about how rare it is to see such emotion from a father. I have yet to see any father experience such anguish as openly as he did through this whole ordeal. I have kids myself, and I couldn't imagine having any of them taken from me! That family has been through so much, and while I do feel for the mother of Chris, let's be realistic here. The only victims in this case are the members of the Yates, and Adams, families. I can't believe the people out there trying to put the blame on the father! Unbelievable! If Chris is so badly mentally challenged, then why wasn't he placed somewhere that he could possibly be watched and treated for whatever problems he had? There is no way anyone can say that he is trully innocent! He claims later in the show that he didn't kill Amy, but then how is it that he knew about the body being in the ditch, the fact that her notebook was a few feet away, and the major point, that he had unbuttoned her pants! That was not realeased! He was obviously stating facts that were not known in the public. So, as far as I'm concerned, he is guilty, and it's not fair for him to not be charged accordingly. I'm not saying we should lynch the kid, but come on. Mental illness is not an excuse, and I don't care how old you are! He knew what he did was wrong, so then he should be put where Johnathan was. Letting this go is just teaching him that he did it once, and got away with it, why not try it again! This is horrible, and the biggest case of injustice ever! I feel very sorry for the Yates, and my prayers go out to them, I also feel for the Adams! Thank god they let Johnathan go, at least they have a chance in moving on in their lives from this, as hard as it may be. The Gossett family however, I'm sorry to say, I feel no sympathy for. He made the decision to do what he did. The so called "Gentle Giant" obviously, wasn't so gentle. There is no way that Johnathan could have overpowered Amy the way that Chris could! I think this is one huge cover up, and it really needs to be fixed, NOW! That poor little girl. It's sad to even see her angelic smile on the television. I hope justice gets served!

Do you have any updates on this case? I have tried to contract Jean Gossett to let her know I have been praying for her and her son. I have also been praying for the Yates family as well. I just am not convinced Chris Gossett did anything to this child. I cannot imagine losing a child to murder and as a mother, I can't imagine having my son railroaded into taking the rap |

Are you comfortable with sending a 17 yo boy to jail that has the mental capacity of a child? Im not! I have a huge problem with him being interrogated without the presence of his parents or an attorney. If he indeed is guilty then he should be punished. Grown healthy adults confess to crimes they did not commit, soooo how would this kid fare? |

I don't understand how everyone can so easily justify what has been done to this little angel, and her family, by saying Christopher is mentally challenged! It's completely ridiculous to defend what has been done to this girl and her family. What it all boils down to is the same thing all of these types of cases do. Did he understand right from wrong? Yes, in fact, he did! I myslef know quite a few people with the same mental capacity that he has, and they all know and understand that it is not ok to do these types of things. I guarentee that certain people would not be ok with certain decisions made regarding Christopher, and what he has done, if it were their child, or family, that this has happened to. Yes, there are many people in this world with a handicap or some other mental illnesses, that however, is not justification for what they do! I myself, would be fine with sending this boy to jail. Was it ok when the other boy was jailed? He to had certain mental issues as well, and no one had any problem with him going to jail, and he was younger than Christopher! It's not like he is up for the death penalty! I guess it seems punishment for this boy to do what he did, and then go home? Yeah right! Some of you people are unbelievable! Christopher Gossett, should definately be punished and imprisoned! What he did was horrible, wrong, and illegal, and he knew that. If he didn't, he would not have attempted suicide over it. That shows that whether he has the mental capacity of a child is irrelevant! He knew what he did, and he knew right from wrong! I have 4 children, and they also know right from wrong. So, by the standard some people have set here, does that mean my 5 year old can go do this to someone? I doubt it! Case should be closed, and he should indefinately be punished!
