Keep it up smoking addicts! Maybe you'll pop a blood vessel while you're coughing up chunks of your diseased lungs. Remember, your a poor poor victim of the evil government. Yes you are. You're all just Christian martyrs. Yes you are. Ok, all together now...... WAH WE CAN'T SMOKE WHEREVER WE WANT! NO FAIR! Why don't you hold your breath until you turn blue? That should take about 5 seconds. LOL.
As a non-smoker I much prefer the company of a smoker than a ranting rageoholic.

Right not, business owners should have the right to keep minorities out and sell rotten food too. Laws shouldn't apply to them. Occupancy requirements? Fire codes? It's communism I tell you! What a pants load. But you expect that from junkies.
Funny thing - I think you're the only one throwing around the word "communism" here. I've seen "collectivism" (accurate description of this situation) and I've seen "totalitarianism" (definitely follows collectivism) but I've only seen "communism" from you. Actually, I would imagine most communist regimes would allow you to smoke if you wanted. You would just have to buy your tobacco from the state at inflated prices!

Right cynic, business owners should be able to ignore any law they like. Who needs OSHA? Let's bring back sweat shops. Who needs restaurant hygiene
laws? That's communism. Your brand of nutty libertarianism just doesn't make any sense.

Hey puss bag are you seriously on here complaining about smokers bitching? Isnt that what you are doing right now?
Typical liberal who wants everyone to be just like them. Sorry tough guy but this is America and I like my freedoms....it just sucks little puss hairs like you are running a free country.
a) I'm about as liberal as you can get... that's why I am AGAINST the smoking ban.

b) Last time I checked, they didn't start coming up with these bans because Congress turned Democrat. They were in the works LONG before that point.

Actually, my "brand of nutty libertarianism" makes a lot of sense. If a restaurant's hygeine sucks, it probably isn't going to stay in business very long. That is assuming, of course, that most people are intelligent enough to decide for themselves not to go back to a place with roaches crawing around.

I never said business owners should be able to ignore any law they like. If a law is in place, it absolutely should be obeyed. I'm advocating that we don't need "nanny" laws in the first place.

That would make you more of a classical liberal than a modern (read: collectivist) liberal.:-)

And if a restaurant poisons a few people along the way that's ok right? And if a large company kills a few people and can buy off the family and not cut into profits that's ok right? Do you Libertarian kooks ever consider the consequences of your philosophy in human terms. No. Thankfully rational people are never going to buy into your pie in the sky Utopian fantasy world. Law are in place now to protect people from the smoking addicts and their noxious fumes. They aren't going to be repealed.

I fail to understand the reasoning behind banning smoking outdoors. Now I am convinced that all these stupid bans are really someone imposing their personal preferences on other people. THAT is just wrong. Personal prefences and lifestyle choices shouldn't be regulated. Orland Park is considereing banning the mini bottles of alcohol, don't they have anything better to do?!

I was going to say a similar thing about the second hand smoke data but you beat me to it and besides, people like that guy have no reason. Congrats on quitting as did I about 3 months ago.
Thanks Well. Good luck to you. As I said, it's been several months for me, and the cravings ended after a few weeks. I think "Jim's" problem is that he still wants to smoke after 4 years.

I have seen this argument so many times. It is such an incredibly stupid argument. Who said that all non-smokers eat Twinkies or are fat? Furthermore, if someone else eats Twinkies, how does that affect you? Do you get fat from someone else eating twinkies? Get over it!
Actually, it does affect me. I have quit smoking, so I no longer have the smoker's penalty for my insurance. I am trying to live a healthier life by walking a few times a day (when I used to take smoke breaks) and participating in team sports. But my insurance premiums are still going up because all of us have to cover for all the obese whales who don't have the willpower to put down the damn fork. And those same fat whales are too lazy to walk a couple of blocks to the store to buy their fattening slop, so they pollute MY air with their gas-guzzling SUVs. So yes, it does affect me.

I have NEVER met a smoker recently who consistantly puts their butts in the ashtrays or other designated areas.
I do remember my grandmother who would never walk with a cigarette, because only 'street walkers' did that. My grandfather wouldn't toss the butts all over, he would make the effort to find an ashtray. Today's smokers are egotistical slobs.
I disagree. When I am on my walk breaks (formerly smoke breaks) at work, I walk past the smokers on the sidewalk. All of them, without fail, use the ashtray that has been provided. That's the key here. When there is an outdoor ashtray provided, the smokers use. Your ISP location lists Carpentersville. If you actually live there, that's why you see what you have seen. Carpentersville only has two types of people living there: white trash and illegal aliens. Neither can be expected to follow the rules of decent society.

There are so many iconic Chicago places that I just can't imagine being smoke free.

The bars on Rush Street.

The Jazz and Blues Clubs.

The Division Street Russian Baths.

I haven't been to any of those places since well before all these smoking bans kicked in. But even though I'm not a smoker myself, I'm afraid that a big part of the essence of these places must have been lost. For me at least, smoke seemed an essential part of their characters - of Chicago's character.

I have no idea what you are talking about and you have no stats to back that up. Not all smokers are fat. Some smokers are fat. Please show me the insurance company research shwing the correlation between your insurance premiums and the dinner fork. Or do you excuse fat smokers? Why do smokers insist on denigrating others they don't know? If you don't like the attitude of non-smokers, fine. But you cannot call them fat, overeaters, or anything else, because you don't know.

The facts are what they are on second-hand smoke. Check out the CDC or Surgeon General's website and, if you are literate, you will see that second hand tobacco smoke is poisonous, carcinogenic and more potent in chemicals than primary smoke. All this talk about restricting rights is nonsense. If anything, it's increasing the rights of people to go where they please without having to breathe in that garbage.
Oh and "Wow" tries to make a point about blanket statements, while making a blanket statement of his own and trying to appear self-righteous. All I can say is, "WOW...you're a moron."
LMAO, and what about all the fumes and toxins caused by Trucks. I would rather be next to a smoker breathing second hand smoke then sitting behind a truck inhaling exhaust fumes.

I agree with the fact that they are taking away one right after another and I don't even smoke.

I can see in reasturant's but outdoor places? Get the fuk over it and quit whining. People are never happy unless they have something to bitch about.

Exactly! Also, what about all the cigar bars that are effected by the ban? What the hell is that? Why would a non smoker even go in a bar that is for the sole purpose of smoking?

Casinos are trying to get the ban over turned because of all the business they are losing. I know that is unlikely to happen but in my opinion there needs to be some kind of compromise.

Many Chicago cops are hoping for a change too with the crowds outside the bars getting larger with the appproaching warmer weather.

You're confused. Actually, very few smokers are fat because nicotine is an appetite suppressant. You said that fat people don't affect anyone. Again, you are confused. Obese people take many medications, and guess who is covering the cost? If you think that the insurance companies are paying for all the obese people to take 10 pills a day out of the goodness of their hearts, you are not only confused, you are also naive.
