CN urges more balanced perspective towards the EJ&E transaction
CN today said that the controversy around the purported environmental impacts of its proposed EJ&E acquisition appears to be exaggerated and is not conducive to a sound public interest review of the ... via Earth Times

CN is totally down playing the environmental impact. In fact it will be 40-50 trains per day in 3 to 5 years. It will cause these towns to be totally inconvenienced daily and nightly. Barington will become a slum. They haven't even considered the dangerous hill at Shoefactory Road crossing. Cn hasn't addressed the huge spike in gate crossing failures, crashes in Toronto which shut the people movers down twice. The train the crashed thru a building at 1am. The haz mat spills, poor maintenance history to name a few. This deal stinks for the people who will be put under the burden of this action. Dupage Forest Preserve says no deal. Senator Durbin is all over it. NO.
We are going to push back to what ever legal level we have to to stop this. |

After reading the press release it sounds like the railroad is not being at all unreasonable. Lowering the EJ&E in a trench through Barrington? Come on. What makes this area so special that they deserve treatment like this?Better to work with them to to make unreasonable demands and be left out in the cold.

Changing your SN from Say No to CN to "John" was kind of transparent, doncha think ? |
|
You are with the railroad. You work there. That is the whole thing. Places are different because people live at the level they afford. We don't want to live like they live in Chicago or Detroit or Gary. That is why we buy and build homes where peace and tranquility came first. It is fairly socialist to treat all the same as one. What country are you from? Next thing you'll have Lenin coming down the block. Why don't yall move in and we'll turn it all into a bing dirty trailer park. A big slum. |

This is a repeat post that doesn't deserve a comment, sorry. |
railham-you haven't come clean. Do you work for the railroad in any way? Lawyer, employee, or union rep. You may well be an effort by the railroad to try to make nice. You are with them aren't you??? |

hey check this out
CN Railroads Hunter Harrison make $29000+ per day. He can buy our houses. http://www.topix.com/forum/com/cni/T2F2LF19B4... |

You sound like a spoiled five year old, "I want my way, and I want it now." Also, you never let the truth get in the way of a bad argument. If there was ever a reason not to live in Barrington I think you are the poster child for it. |
|
I think that the pot needs to look in the mirror before it tries to call the kettle black. You are the one who is playing the socialist/communist. True supporters of free markets and capitalism would never try to use the government to impose its will on businesses. In the capitalist system the people of Barrington, and the other communities, would try to outbid CN for the EJ&E. As it stands you want the government to do your will and prevent the free markets and capitalism. That is true communism/socialism. As far as the claim that this will make Barrington into a slum, like Gary, Chicago or Detroit. You need to get out into the world and realize that many very wealthy communities have busy railroads running through them and it doesn't effect the values of the property anywhere close to the way you suggest. |
|
More evidence of your communist/socialist leanings? Since when does a person who supports capitalism complain that a person makes a lot of money? |
|
You obviously are a selective reader. You focus on minutia. You accumulate parts of conversation and make your own meaning. Did you miss the parts I wrote about the damage this will cause thousands of individual home owners here? You must have missed the part where I explain our reasons for our position. You criticize me and you use only parts of the story. If it was in YOUR backyard you'd feel differently. |
|
I wouldn't be trying to force my will upon someone with the big hand of the government. I focus upon the whole picture. I have not missed the reasons for your position. The problem is that you are making wild, or even hysterical, statements like "this will turn Barrington into a slum." Yet you do not back them up with facts or studies. Show me a community where a railroad increasing train traffic has significantly decreased property values and I could concede your point. Yelling that it will does not make it true. The best argument that could be made is one of public safety. But there are reasonable ways of overcoming those problems. Quite zones are being set up in many places around the country to deal with the horn noise problems. Reasonable negotiations for appropriate grade separations are also carried on with the railroads every week. These things can and should be done. The worst thing you could do is to sit in the mud and cry NO!!! If that is your only plan you will not get the best deal possible. As far as focusing on the minutia, that charge can go both ways. You need to look at your own arguments and see that some of the things you claim others are guilty of doing are also true about what you are doing. In one of your posts you claimed that I worked for the railroad, I Don't. But did work for the Federal Government for a number of years, retired now. The Feds will listen to arguments that are backed by facts and studies, they will not listen to assertions that have no backing. If you want to win your argument back them up with facts, not childish "civics 101" "lessons." |

WOW, It seems Railfan and not a railroader are possibly one in the same. I agree with CN railroads barrington, Railfan could possibly be a CN cohert posting on forums to try to change the minds of others to have different perspectives of the whole situation. Stop wasting your time,it's not going to work.

You should spend some time by rail yards. Pig sty's. Run down industrial neighborhoods. Have you been on Green Street in Bensenville,Il? Or in they yards on the south side of Chicago. Oh so attractive. Filthy industrial sites. So don't be criticizing those who are protecting our towns from the same fates. Just sit over there and watch us fight on. This only firms our resistance. I've been reading about how Hunter runs his company. Lots of unhappy employees. Lots of complaints from Toronto and the people mover services. Lots of remarks about his ruthlessness. You have some nerve criticizing us. |
|
That was basic homeowner civics 101. Hardly childish if you could possibly comprehend what I wrote from a honest and personal perspective. The railroad has given us nothing but fluff. Where is the study saying our property values will increase? Where is the study saying people in Barrington and Hoffman will be better off. Where are their hard facts, huh? Nice try! |
|
railham appears to be an effort by the railroad to infiltrate these forums. |

John, has anyone ever told you you're really cute when you're mad ? |
|
Gee, I better be careful, people might find out that I have mastered the art of being in two different places at, or close to the same time. How do I get from Grand Island, Nebraska to Farmington Hills, Michigan and back in a matter of a few minutes. Oops, I'm letting people in on my secret. Tongue firmly planted inside cheek. |

ROFL....I guess the jig is up. Now if you will excuse me, I have to fire up my Austin Healey and go catch some spies from the railroad. |
