Lawton Teacher Fired For Rape Charges

I think its mess up, why did the girl wait so long to say somethings, she what nineteen now.. I was a former student at Eisenhower, and this isn't the first teacher there to do something like this. My question is??? Why did she now say something what was holding her back?? She wanted it just as much as he did.

I really dont think this is a case of moral rape it is just a case of criminal rape by Oklahoma law any act of sex between an adult and a minor constitutes rape. I Had a class with Coach Cox and was on the track team never noticed anything. Howerever I do believe as the teacher he should be held responsible. I was a former student of Coach Cox. Personally I don't think that it is his fault because of these young girls now-a-days. I graduated in 2006 and I have typically seen the open sexuality of all these people. It seems as though decency and responsibility between the attitudes of the young people have gone out the window. I think that Coach Cox should of thought about it a little more before he made this mistake and broke the law, but that the girl should be punished as well. It is just not fair for someone like him to loose his reputation and his dignity to a mistake that he made so long ago. It is quite amazing that the girl waited so long also. I guess more evidence is needed to make an accurate claim about this. I feel really bad for his wife.

Check out some of these people's ridiculous comments. Melissa, Jeannie, Kody, Allen. It's exactly people like them who are a BIG part of the problem. Can you believe Jeannie, for example? Check out how she blames the underaged TEEN and says the coach just made "a mistake." They all need a lesson from Miss America, who helped cops CATCH these criminals -not make excuses for them. And Lauren Nelson is part of the solution - not part of the problem. Of course like some of them say: too many teens today are too sexually open. NOW HEAR THIS AND TRY TO UNDERSTAND IT (BECAUSE IT SEEMS SO DIFFICULT FOR THESE PEOPLE TO UNDERSTAND THIS CONCEPT): an adult - ESPECIALLY A TEACHER OR COACH - doesn't GET to take advantage of that situation of teens being young and stupid and too sexually open. IT IS MORALLY AND CRIMINALLY WRONG to do so. If you don't understand that concept then you don't deserve to be a TEACHER OR COACH or to get paid for those jobs. If you are someone who blames the teen and not the coach or teacher: then you are part of the problem and YOU are the one who needs to "wake up." End of story. No excuses.

GabrielToo said all the right things. Also, a student is in school to be taught, the right things to do , regardless of what they want to do. Teenagers have always experimented and tried new things, but as adults (especially teachers) a standard must be set. "Teachers are not supposed to have sex with our kids", that we turn over to you to educate.

Just wondering if those who think the 'girl' should be blamed have children of their own? I would assume not, otherwise they wouldn't be taking that position. This sort of thing is going on all over this state as well as others. If you don't believe me, pull up the Elk City, Norman, Sayre, Beckham County, and other forums. In this sort of situation, it doesn't matter what you 'think' the girl was 'asking' for. The teacher/coach is always the one in control, and should never overstep those boundaries. It also doesn't matter if the girl is 18 or not. If any teacher is involved with ANY student, the teacher is at fault. They are the ones in positions of power, and are ultimately responsible for whatever 'things' happen.

Despite what kind of reputation these teachers/coaches have, they might have been passed on to your school after being let go from another school for doing the same things. It's the typical small town, sweep it under the rug and it never happened treatment for undesirable situations.

Wow! You are obviously someone who took their education seriously. I'm pretty sure anyone with half, no, even an eighth of a brain won't take anything you just said seriously. As I said before, people with your sort of opinion either have no children, could care less, or are possibly predators also. I hope you never have a daughter, or a son for that matter. A teacher should never sleep with a student regardless of age of legality.

The sad thing about this case is he simply got caught. Graduating from a local high school in 2003, I can tell you of several other teacher-student relationships and even student-teacher relationships. It happens every day.

If anyone is to blame its the parents. No, I don't mean the parents of the girl. I mean ALL parents in this country. Parents are constantly complaining and getting teachers fired when they try to teach any kind morality in school. How often is it in the news these days that teachers got fired for praying in classes or suggesting to read the Bible or any other form of religious material? One side effect of banning all religious activities is that students don't learn any kind of morality. They aren't learning it at home. That's more than obvious. If you keep getting the teachers fired that have morals, which are usually tied to religion in one form or fashion, all you will have left are the teachers that don't have any kind of morals that you would expect a teacher to have. And for all you people on this forum trying to put all the blame on the teacher, saying, well if you had kids, shut up. Kids aren't being brought up these days. Parents refuse to teach there kids anything about morality. That's why teen pregnancy is going up. That's why half of the kids in high school have std's. That's why Lawton has massive gang problems in schools. You can walk through Wal-Mart in this town and see 5 year olds throwing up a gang sign. 10 year olds talking about what they did with their bf/gf last night. Parents need to wake up. Kids will learn about the things you try to shelter from them just by walking down the hall in school. Your lack of teaching your kids whats out there is the cause of this. People like this couch have been around for ages and there weren't problems. Why? Because parents actually taught their kids about sex, drugs, and all the other things that were bad. These days you either just say don't do it and leave it at that(which does nothing besides issues a challenge for the kid to do it) or you expect schools to teach it. Sure, this teacher crossed a line that shouldn't be crossed. But it would have been a forced rape, not just sex. Then you could sit here and blow up on this guy for all I care. But since the girl was willing, it's not purely his fault. She didn't say no. She didn't do anything to stop it. She waited years to even report it. Stop defending her like she did nothing wrong. She herself made the decision to sleep with him. Rape, only one person is in control, sex, two.

Now before you flame me for whatever retarded reason you come up with, remember this, I agree with him losing his job. What I don't agree is everyone blaming him like its entirely his fault.

And also, for the person talking about Miss America being role model, wake up. She was just another hot teenager from Lawton Oklahoma. Chances are she partied, got drunk, and slept with her bf before she ever turned 18(because that is all there is to do in this town). You should also think about the fact that the girls in Lawton don't date younger. So what does that tell you about who she must have slept with? So unless you know some hard evidence about Lauren that proves she was always in church never doing anything wrong, don't even bother using her as an example or claiming that she is a role model. She is only acting perfect because of the role she is currently in. When she hands over the title, she will go back to what she was. Miss America can't stay Miss America unless she acts exactly how they want her to. The person you see on tv, thats not Lauren. That's the person that the Miss America organization has created.

I am upset and mad that you would defame Lauren Nelson the way that you have. I have known her for a long time. My mother has taught her and my uncle is best friend's with her dad. I went to junior high and high school with her. She is so dear to me and you could not find a better role model than her. She did not drink and party in high school, and she is not some crazy sex teenager. It is shameful in this world when we must put others down because of his or her accomplishments because we as individuals are jealous.

I am related to kent. yes he made a mistake. i dont think it is fair for him to serve such a long sentence. i think he crossed the line but i dont think charges should have been pressed so long after she is married and has kids i believe it is all about the money. his wife has forgiven him and he now has a daughter and is moving on in life. i think this was all about what kind of money the mother could get.

"IT dosen't matter melissa what ever the reason was,or what was holding her back,or if she wanted it or not, back then she was only 16,or 17,thing is she has come forward with,it is wrong for teachers to have sex with there students,thats not what the kids are there for,if he did this he should be put in prison for 50 yrs!!

"SORRY"But you can not commit a crime an expect to move as nothin happend,you have to face it some time in your life,

i never said i did not expect anything to happen i just did not expect the punishment would be so harsh considering people do alot worse things and get less time and fines for it. the punishment was harsh for the consentual crime
