The cost of gas has people considering mass transit like the commuter buses in Fishers and Carmel.

The sooner the better. I've been hearing about this train for years. It's about time someone actually put this plan in motion.

As I've been saying for years, the most responsible decision for the Indianapolis area concerning mass transit is to put in a train between the airport and downtown.

This will help the tourist business by making it easier and cheaper to get in/out of Indy for conventioners and weekend tourists alike. This will help bring in the ca$h to build up other lines, like the one proposed between downtown and Fishers.

In my opinion, travelers are more likely to forgo renting a car than residents of the Northeast side. Most will still buy cars/suvs anyway and the line will fail miserably due to the lack of use.

Along the same vein, Indygo needs to get on more express lines, with stops every 1/2 mile to mile. It's ridiculous to expect people to ride a bus that has the potential of stopping every block making the bus trip 4x longer than it would take by car.

It needs to happen in several areas. This city is not going to stay the same size or get smaller, it is only going to grow and aside from the gas prices traffic congestion will only get worse.

Why 2-4 yrs out...why not months or weeks if have tracks and can buy/rent/lease power and cars?Diesel...no other form of power in long-term?
Monorail long-term, so no issues with vehicle traffic?

We just had a tax revolt over government taking too much of our money. Now we want some new bright shiny tax funded toys?
Who among us wants to fork over hundreds of millions of NEW tax dollars for this?
The idea of riding to work on a train sounds great, but nobody's talking about how to pay for it. Government does not fund it, we do.
Be careful what you ask for.

At what point will we consider mass transit to the airport rather than just to downtown Indianapolis? There is certainly demand.

I DO.
The ones who don't include a lot of retired people who don't have to drive to work, a lot of people in the suburbs who work near home, a lot of suburban car dealers, and a lot of rich people who just don't care. Those people want more cars and more highways, perhaps because they like the idea that someday Hamilton County might have traffic like Chicago or Los Angeles.
People who live in the suburbs and work in Indianapolis, but want to have a real life after work, would like a mass transit system.
