And also our East side is going down the tubes. But don'T our downtown look nice? OF course thats the only part of our city they see or care about.

The boomeranng effect (when you throw one out, it returns back to original point) is now playing in everypart of the world right now. When you have so many human beings in all types of industries engaging in bad behavior, the bad consequences of these actions return with blunt force.

Just like Rome became so advanced and fell, we too may fall if course corrections in human behavior(however difficult) are not made.

And all of that time and emotional energy spent by the legislators trying to add gay marriage to the state constitution! There are far greater problems facing this state as was pointed out in this article.

Has no one ever heard of due diligence, or more simply Buyer Beware. Easy money generaly comes with a tie and always with added risk.
Why didn't the gal from Flordia ever take the time and effort to check into her business assocaiates.

We need articles like this one. It's time to bring local government officials to their senses that all is not well, if they just look around their neighborhood. Indiana ranks 6th highest state in property taxes. With such high property tax, is it worth living in a small house in a blight neighborhood? Time to stop the local government milking the public!

Drive around the streets of the old town of Lawrence. It is plagued with vacant, foreclosed homes. Also the commercial properties have a large number of vacancies. Apparently more people moving out than wamting to move in.

It breaks my heart to hear about a lender getting screwed. To bad the easy money deal didn't work out for them.

If Marion county wasn't controlled by the Realtors it would make sales info available online, like Hamilton County does. But doing that would let people know if they're getting ripped off or not, and the Realtors want to keep customers in the dark.

And if Samuel McKaig is charging $1,000 rent on a house he has $42,000 invested in, he's going to have a lot to explain to the Lord.
House values are going DOWN throughout much of the county. The assessor is 6 months behind in their work because they are blithering idiots. Watch what happens to your taxes in June.

Yeah, I couldn't help but wince over the $1,000.00 per-month rate. I know it isn't illegal, but that is just simply wrong. We are headed for such troubles in our country.

If Samuel McKaig can get $1,000 rent on a $42,000 property, good for him. Rent is set at what the market will bear. There's nothing wrong with that.

So the human condidtion of greed strikes again, a person got burned because of the $$$ in her eyes, and so of course we need more regulation. As the previous poster said, Buyer Beware! Because people want Mommy Government to protect them from their own stupidity, because people are too lazy to do their homework, we now need yet another layer of laws that will add who knows how many thousands of dollars to the price of a home. There was a time in this country that Person A let it be known their preperty was for sale, Person B made an offer, and then the offer was either accepted or rejectd. If the offer was excepted, money changed hands and everyone went their own way. Now a house MUST be priced at least 6 to 8% above its actual value so the realtor can be paid. Then of course there are closing costs, title search costs and many other costs that you find out about when you sit down at the table to sign forms for almost 45 minutes. You can't legislate greed or stupidity, and that is exactly what happened here. This broad thought she saw an easy million and got screwed. Sorry about her luck. So now we all have to pay the price?

It's called Capitalism" and if we don't leave it alone we absolutely will be in trouble. This guy makes $1000 a month on his house because someone is willing to pay it. Who can rightfully step in and regulate what the market will bear? The answer should be "No one" in a free society. If you want to be a socialist on the other hand, then by all means let us dictate what, when, where, and how a person can handle their own property and then we can tax the sh** out of it. That way anyone who has the means can move somewhere else to avoid all those taxes, just like all the rock stars and rich folks in England do to avoid their 80% tax rate.

There's no way that house would rent for $1,000 a month. You can rent a nice 3 bedroom on the north side for that - why on earth would you spend that money to live on Winfield?

Any listing in the area can be found at MIBOR.com or Realtor.com . Maybe you should do some homework before pointing fingers.

I would almost guarantee the rent being paid on this property is government subsidized. The only way to get this amount of rent in this neighborhood is through assisted rent programs.

I am a low income, first time buyer. I am looking for a home but right now i'm not sure if buying is a good idea? How would i know a scam from a good deal and are the realtors trust worthy with all the mess going on? I can see how so many homes can remain unsold. Too many of us are scared to even look into buying.

Carmel is starting to do that with their neighborhoods, instead of using tax dollars to fix up the area with new sewers and sidewalks they want this porperty to die and be boarded up. They are too worried about getting the new ego buildings up and running affordable housing out of the community. If only Indianapolis and Carmel and other City's would enforce the Ordinances and make these property owners take care of the problems, then you would not see this happen. Wake up property owners.
