I was just told something that alarmed me. Has anybody looked at our Senate districts for Carlsbad? We used to have two senators with the majority of their districts in Carlsbad. During this last legislative session, Lea County and Alamogordo (who actually lost population) divided up Vernon Asbill's senate district, giving La Huerta and Orchard lane to Hobbs' Gay Kernon (who has the majority of her voters in Lea County) and the rest to Alamogordo (whose former mayor won in last Tuesday's primary). Both of those districts now have majorities of voters in Lea and Otero Counties. The senate seat representing south Carlsbad, was redistricted several years ago to give Lea County the majority there (pro-Lea county resident Carroll Leavell now holds this seat).

How did Carlsbad lose it state senate representation but GAIN residents in the last census? Representative Brown, how and why could this happen?!? Who is watching out for Carlsbad now?

Daily Horoscope for May 22

Libra

Be very careful when handling financial matters today because not everything is as straightforward as it seems. For instance, someone may tell you about a fail-safe way of making money but neglect to mention all the reasons why it's totally illegal. There could also be mistakes if you're spending money, such as being short-changed or overcharged. So watch out!
