I am not sure if you addressing me, but no not from a competing restaurant. I am glad your friends from LUBBOCK (And Lubbock is not exactly a culinary mecca) loved the place. My friends and I found it to be very disappointing and felt the quality at least at lunch was not that great. I find it regretful that someone can post they had a bad experience at this location and you are upset by this. Wondering now do you work there or are you friends with the owners. I am sorry my friends and I have eaten at places all across the country and this was in comparison was a big disappointment. I also find it disappointing that if a restaurant is going to prepare something differently then on the menu would it not be common practice to inform the customer. The baked goods are great when fresh but they rarely are fresh and this is the problem. So glad you had a great experience unfortunately ours was not so great such is life. A good restaurant owner will be proud of the positive and take a serious look at the negative and see what can be done to remedy the situation. I know we are not the only ones who have had issues just the only one posting on here.We are also though entitled to our opinion.

Seriously this is the worst place I've ever been to. just cause you put a fancy name on the dish and a high price on it doesn't mean its going to be good. so first time I went the sandwich was just ok, you can't really mess up chicken salad. well when I was there someone had these asian noodles looked so good, so I thought ok I'll try that next time. well I ordered it today, and was brought a bowl of bowtie pasta that was supposed to be an asian meal with italian infusion.....AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHH can I say disgusting? I said this isn't what this dish looked like last time I saw it. Oh we don't have the asian noodles anymore so we use bowtie....I don't get the substitution of soba noodles to bowtie pasta.. I would not recommend this place to anyone. wanted some gelato to go...they didn't have to go silverware and they asked me if I wanted a knife or a fork.....I told them no thanks, they say but we already served it, you don't want it? No, I don't want it if you expect me to eat it with a plastic fork or knife... they looked at me like I was an idiot..who is the idiot? well I kinda am for going there twice to eat!!!

I agree with most of above. this place makes a lot of promises but very short on delivery. the gelato is overall ok, the food is just ok and the dinner menu? where to start? first way overpriced and for those prices I better get something out of this world, but too scared to go because I'm afraid if they run out of filet mignon they will substitute a burger patty (ince they are apparantely known for substituting without letting customer know first).

When we ate there the food was good, the service mediocre. My only complaint is that they were out of salad that day...seems like a trend there? I liked the freshness and lightness of the food though. It's a nice change and we'll probably eat there again. I feel for any business in this town just trying to staff their business from locals is ridiculous as most people here don't want to work. IHOP's reputation is ruined in my book because of the lousy service here and every time we've gone they've been out of something we wanted to order (they were out of potatoes one time...Wal-Mart is right there, you'd think they could go run and grab a few bags to tide them over until their next shipment) but that shows lack of managerial experience on the franchise owner's part. I actually did a complaint on their main website and was told the local franchise owner would be contacting me. After a month, no word so in my opinion they don't want business very badly. They need to train staff on how to waitress (like not handing you a glass by holding it by the rim and not leaning over the entire table to hand someone food instead of walking around) You'd think that would be common sense but I guess not. I see Carlsbad starting to grow but the businesses need to get a grip on their employees and start showing that they care a bit more.

My boyfriend and I went to Carlsbad this past weekend, and had dinner on Saturday night here it was amazing! Place was nice, service was exceptional, food was delicious. We arrived at about 10twenty, and although they were closed they served on us. We sat out in the patio and it was nice. We loved that although its very classy people go dressed down as well, love the variety of wines and server knowledge. We had the filet mignon and duck it was great. Yes I concur it has its negatives for instance price and portions, but every place does. I believe its a great place to visit from out of town, to take a date, special occasions, or for a fancy night out.(&were from El paso)

Must be a relative, same goes for the fat bespectacled moronic host. They have a very long way to go to live up to their menu price

I don't frequent Yellow Brix anymore. They got a bunch of my money and treated me like trash.
Also they have no sense of decor. The Blue House managers would never buy a building faced with dun brick and think the best way to visually enhance it was to plant a bunch of yellow shrubbery. And the patio on the highway is not exactly a brilliant move, either.
The interior art is mediocre. The wait staff are charming, but inexperienced. The owner-manager, that Andy Warhol wannabe, is a pretentious ass.
The food is reasonably good but overpriced, and it certainly is not worth all of those fancy menus. The live music is mediocre at best.
Calloway's will likely be thriving here when Yellow Brix is long gone and forgotten. The Pecos River Cafe, too.
That site would work well for a chain restaurant, though. Applebees anyone?

IHOP is having a tough time getting people to work here!

I went in for lunch with a friend. I had a half a sandwich and a salad that were almost $10. The salad was simply a small handful of pre-bagged spring mix with bottled dressing. The sandwich had a small scoop of chicken salad and one side of the bread was dried out I had to pull it off. What was most disturbing though is when I walked in I saw the cook? in the kitchen putting chips on a plate barehanded, then he picked one up ate it, then grabbed a few more to put on the plate. Sorry the women who owns it is a sweetheart, but they do not know how to run a restaurant. Her husband though well he sure thanks he is something special.
