This is how medicine is frequently perceived by uneducated people. Inner ear infections can be life threatening, yes I did say that. Ear infections can affect the surrounding tissue and cause severe problems such as in mastoiditis. Of course if the doctor had not offered these tests and you left with just antibiotics, then became more ill and eventually passed out or had seizures from a brain infection , you and your wife would complain loudly-- if she survived-- and be at an attorneys office seeking millions in damages so fast no one would see the smoke from your tail pipe. After you received enough money that you never had to work a day in your life again, you would continue to complain about the awful doctors and nurses.
Good doctor!! Proud to hear a thorough clinician works in the ER who has covered all the bases and on the rare chance that your wife becomes severely ill-- it is YOUR fault and not the doctors. SFMC is not trying to pull anything, they are just making sure you don't pull anything on them.
I have been a nurse in ER and surgery , I have been nursing for 18 years. Yes they DID rtry to get more money. It was a very reasonable refusal on the part of this patient. There are criteria and signs ANY physicians know that would require follow up . You had none of the symptoms to make them believe you had a brain bleed. My god , this is terrible. And yes probably happens at EVERY hospital. Heartless a-holes. They should have given you instructions and sent you home to follow up i with your fami,y physician or or come back to ER if your condition worsens. you "company people" making an argument otherwise are just ignorant . Know what you are talking about before you run your mouth.

absolutely agree with "hey" and the other "guest".
The doctors don't know or care if you have insurance. They do care about your health and of course no one wants to be sued.
Medical personnel are sick and tired of attorneys and patients making a living off of anything they can find wrong at the drop of a hat.
The doctor covered his butt. Don't blame him I would too. Good for him for being thorough. You turned it down now the ball is in YOUR court.
YES the doctors know AND care if you have insurance It is a simple
keystroke on the computer. NO everyone doesn't get the same tests whether they have insurance , Medicaid , or self pay. The hospital does NOT get paid the same no matter what you get done. Those of us who work hard for a living get charged MUCHmore for our care, so we can pay nore giving the hospital ore to make up for medicaid and selfay losers. You people have absolutely NO PRIDE. Yes I know you do not care. Those with Medicaid, it reimburses the hospital at about 1/3 rd of the fee for the test would be. All you SELF PAY folks just it all for free. So you are also ignorant of the reality of this situation.

Fools Not Cool, you are right on with the description of "company people". Whatever it takes, build the practice! The emergency room cannot rake in any profits for the hospital recommending sweet oil or other simple, natural cures.

do you honestly believe they don't care? My father has a kidney stone lodged and he lost his job in feb so his cobra ran out. He can't even get treated

rachel, tell him to start sucking lemons constantly, and drink all the pure lemon juice he can. This will help dilate everything in the urinary tract and help him pass the stone. He may need painkillers, too, but maybe not.

I have been an RN for over 30 years , worked in ER, ICU, and administration. I don't know which hospital you might have worked at as you are wrong. They don't try to get money out of people- tests are ordered as indicated. I don't know of any Physicians that check insurance status before going in to visit with a patient. That is found out after the fact if it comes up at all-99 percent of the time it does not.

Your paranoia and your statement are "just ignorant"

no hospital can deny you treatment , no matter what. It is a fact that ER people and hospital know.

These American doctors, it is about the money. They stand around at these parties and the ridicule is endless. The people that put them in their mansions are the ones they look down on and laugh at. Such jest and bravado from them. Yet they know not what really goes on. It is best served cold and they don't even know its happening to them. Right in front of their faces. Keep up the back patting comrades for you know not who has infiltrated.

The red flag here is that you have worked administration. Another "company " person. You really do not have a clue do you. Ithese things do not happen all day every day but fairly often. I have seen it with my own eyes. I worth critical car . I am where it actually HAPPENS. I won't speak again on this but this is the cold hard truth.

Ive worked there for 8 years now as an RN and I can't recall a single instance that a patient has been denied the tests that were required to diagnose or treat them.(We really don't look to see what insurance you have before ordering a test.) This might occur at larger hospitals such as Detroit or Chicago where they kick people out after the patient is barely considered "stable" (all while providing sub-standard care) however, this is not true for either hospital in Cape. I've said it before and I'll say it again..we are truly lucky to have both SFMC and SEH in the same area...they are exceptional hospitals with caring doctors and nurses providing "above and beyond" care to the people they serve!

Bwahahahahahah! Obviously you have never been to Barnes. I have spent many weeks there with two very sick family member. I had to remind the nurses and doctors to wash their hands almost every time one of them entered the room. All they have are travel nurses filling in holes and the regular nurses are just as bad. It was nearly impossible to get pain medicine for a women screaming in pain witH cancer and metastasis to her whole body. I have never seen such poor care. Our hospitals are wonderful compared to them. So please remember next time YOU are sick, take your happy ass to Barnes..... Enjoy , jackass.

I so agree with you on this. I have been in Barnes hospital four times and didn't receive the care I got when I was in SFMC or SEH. I have no choice but to go to Barnes cause my specialist is there but the hospital sucks!!!
