Sixty-eight percent of Americans — including 49 percent of Republicans — say President George W. Bush is responsible for the state of today’s economy, a new Gallup poll finds.

Indeed, the country is still reeling from Bush’s disastrous economic stewardship. His irresponsible tax cuts for the rich and deregulatory policies have contributed significantly to the slow recovery and are partly responsible for the nation’s economic plight. Here are 5 reasons why:

1. Deregulated Wall Street: Bush eliminated the rules that allowed Wall Street to cause the financial crash that plunged the nation into the Great Recession.

2. Cut Taxes For The Wealthy: The Bush tax cuts — over 50 percent of which benefited the richest 5 percent of American taxpayers — cost about $2.5 trillion over the decade after they were enacted. Ten years later, Bush’s tax cuts are still the main driving factor of the national debt:

3. Ran Up A Tab On Two Wars: The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have cost the country trillions of dollars. Combined with Bush’s tax cuts, war spending was a main factor in blowing up the deficit and spending the surplus accumulated under Clinton. Lawmakers now use the deficit as an excuse for inaction.
4. Left Homeowners In A Lurch: While Bush was happy to help out the banks in the wake of the housing crisis, he did little to assist struggling homeowners.

5. Weakened Workers: Bush weakened worker safety regulations and collective bargaining rights under the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Department of Labor throughout his time in office. Today, corporations are back to making record profits, while workers’ incomes are falling.

While all of this may be true, it didn't help that Obama continued many of Bush's policies. I don't know why Republicans hate Obama so much considering he is a Conservative in Liberal clothing.

Most of that BuckwheatBrain post is crap. Bottomline, GWB wanted to go out in style as a "loved" prez BY COMPROMISING WITH THE SOCIALIST DEMS!!!! That's where all the crap came in.

And that BS above, i mean for example, deregulation is productive for our country, and THERE'S A CONGRESSIONAL COMMITTEE THAT IS SUPPOSE TO KEEP AN EYE ON THESE COMPANIES! That is their job, the Financial Services Committee! But, when you got Barney Frank (MA-Dem) running the committee , and not doing his job, it just all falls into the s#itter. Some of its own members went to him several times with all sorts of "red flag" issues and he just shrugged it off.

For example, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, B. Frank let the accounting scandals go on and on, knowing what the turnout would be. But, his gay banging buddy was Herb Moses, who was an executive at Fannie Mae. Of course, Frank isn't going to "clap down" on them (no pun intended).

I could go on and on with the above ludicrous BuckwheatBrain statements but it gets tiring repeating the same facts over and over ... when, actually, liberal socialists DO NOT CARE ABOUT THE FACTS ... they just dream up this nonsense BS and pretend it's all REAL!!!

Just like their leader karl marx. He opened his book "Communist Manifesto" with, "A spectre is haunting Europe — the spectre of communism. All the powers of old Europe have entered into a holy alliance to exorcise this spectre..." and "Capital is dead labor, which, vampire-like, lives only by sucking living labor, and lives the more, the more labor it sucks." I mean, follow the politics of this dumba$$ jerk?!?! This dumba$$ was nothing more than an Entitlement idiot (living off engels) plagiarizing from all the books on politics in the libraries - which was easy for him and he had alot of time to do it because HE NEVER HAD A JOB!!!

That's right! We should be giving our money to corporations! They know better than us how to use it! And maybe if we are nice enough to them, they will decide to add jobs, instead of just tucking that money in with the rest of their record profits!

You fooled me once and got me to vote for Bush, shame on me! If you fool me twice, and get me to vote for Romney, I'm just a fool!

You have "pro capitalism" confused with "pro capitalist". There is a very distinct difference. As for Communism, you obviously have even less understanding of what it takes to be a communist than a capitalist.

Please, get an understanding of what the words you are using mean. I'm not here to give you an education you should have received in high school PoliSci classes, or definitely in your college PoliSci classes at least!

I have never been a big fan of Bush. I never voted for him or his dad. However the problem with this country is our last 11 presidents. The problem is these lifelong senators and congressmen who formed a secret society filling there own pockets with tax money and letting this country spiral out of control. Now it's to late ,America is about to be sold out to another country soon. I hope I'm dead when it happens.

Under bush the economy was great? No under CLINTON the economy was great. The economy started out great under bush, and I need not tell you where it went and is continuing to go.

They are not opposite, actually. Capitalism is an economic system, Communism (as the word is most commonly used, not the real meaning) is a political system. It is quite possible to have a Capitalistic Communistic (in both the true meaning and the common meaning) State. It would simply be a classless society in which individuals trade goods and services based upon a free-market principle of values. It is also quite possible to have a Capitalistic Socialist State, and there are several in the world, most of which are much better than America. We live in a Capitalistic Democracy.

Education, be it public, private, or self taught, is a wonderful thing.

There is a great confusion among some, that giving money and incentives to capitalists, creates capitalism. When the only way to promote true capitalism, is ensuring the purchasing power stays with the consumers, who will then decide through money spent which businesses survive and thrive.

The inherent problem with true democratic capitalism, without some socialistic tendencies, is it depends on an educated consumer base. As we can tell through this thread and so many others, being educated in anything is not a primary concern for many Americans.

True capitalism is not so much about purchasing power as it is demand originating with the consumer. For capitalism to work well, in any political system, the demand must come from the consumer. That is lacking in our current society. Instead, demand is a product of the supplier to justify the product made, which is why marketing is so crucial. Apple did not make an iPad because there was some kind of consumer demand, they made it because they new doing so would create demand; this is perverse. Galbraith calls it "The Dependence Effect."

Education is key for democracy period. Which is a big reason why ours is failing.
