This IS a very dangerous section of town for kids to walk to school in. My children used to walk the same way. We live 1 1/2 miles from Diplomat and the bus wouldn't pick them up because they said we lived to close. There were no side walks AT ALL when my kids were walking there. There are a few now but not leading directly to the school. I used to walk with them because of all of the sex offenders in the area. They spent all that money on the new side walks and landscaping on del prado but none of it leads to the school. All of the kids that live back in neighborhoods have to walk right on the road with traffic and the cars barely move aside.

Sex offenders! Does anyone really know what the law justifies as a sex offender? I doubt it!

You are a nitwit. Try detaching the umbilical cord. The doctor was supposed to do it but its up to you now. I heard it works wonders and, it may, salvage a normal life for your kid.

Society loves keeping these puppets paranoid. Theyíre easier to control that way.

I love that new, winding sidewalk! It's way too nice for this part of town though. It makes as much sense as when they lanscaped the median on Martin Luther King Blvd. Yes, it's beautiful, but it's still MLK.

Me too. When mine were little, I used to talk to the other mommies in the neighborhood and try to get a plan of action together so all the kids could walk in a group.

But yeah, I hear you. I've seen kindergarteners walking all alone and that just never looks right.

They need trees to hang in you know. Thatís as far as Iím takiní it. Ok fc it, I pretty sure that part of the civil right agreement that we would tree line their OWN road and erect trees for their exercise.

Well its way too long to go into but hereís an example. If you have a son letís say 14, and he likes a girl at school and eventually she likes him back and eventually they have sex and eventually his eyes wander to another girl (usually very soon after sex with the first girl) now the first girl gets jealous and says AHHH, he raped me. After a lengthily (sometimes) investigation they determine he didnít actually rape her but she wasnít a willing participant but gave into pressure. HE is NOW a sexual predator and MUST register. If you get caught urinating in the great outdoors and there is a child within 100 yards, you may be placed on a sexual predator list. Oh darliní it goes on and on. Look at the sexual predator list in just cape coral alone, There are so many that each and every one of us comes into contact with at least one every day. Itís a very flawed law but when you ask these parents about the ones in their neighborhood theyíre ALL child predators. So, why do I know this? Well I was renting a home (the first person that ever lived in this home) and low and behold it was listed as a predator home and described the predator as a 22 year old male. That ainít me or anyone in my house. In fact Iíve been out of that house now for quite some time and itís STILL listed that way. Wanna know why? Good Iíll tell you, they keep the last known address of a predator on file as ACTIVE until they locate them and their NE address. But this guy was NEVER at the address they listed him. So that is now a ďLimboĒ home and whoever moves into will have neighbors walking by and whispering like they did us. Pretty cool huh? Protect your own kids we donít need some dumb as law telling what we should be afraid of, it NEVER works.

This is all about a sidewalk? Diplomat isnt even all that busy, sure it has traffic. Though there is a school zone you must slow down at its only 300-600 ft long maybe...Granted that zone could be bigger if you ask me. Noone likes a "chester" child molester, either way you look at it. Sorry to hear about your misfortune with the whole adress thing and sexual predator etc etc. Ofcourse then agian any idiot parent could clearly see there is kids living there so of course something wouldnt add up.
Seriously a sidewalk couldnt hurt, although it might take them years to finish haha.

The tree exercise thing was just WRONG! HAHA

omg...I don't even know what to think about that. How could they have made a mistake THAT big? That's beyond horrible. I wonder if you could have sued the city for defamation of character.

Another example that I just thought of is when a 18-19 year old boy is dating a 17 y.o. girl and her parents report him to the police. He would probably have to register too.

I think 16 in the ending age for statutory, but not sure, and yes, an 18 or 19 year old boy dating a 16 year old isnít really creepy at all but talk about jail bait.
I didn't care about that. A friend of mine told me about it or I would never have known. It wasnít me or anyone in my house so I had no care at all. But the law is extremely flawed and nobody is doing anything about it.

Theres people that do things behind the scenes. Fla attorney general is a busy man. Lee county has a board of commisions that meet once a month. Its made up of probation officers, teachers, councilmen,DCF, JAC, LCSO, Fmpd, CCpd, anyone whoms someone. They are tring to atleast take the inishitive to help juveniles and lower the crime in the county.

This of course all takes time. Nothing happends overnight or at a snap of a finger. Most laws dont ever change they just get "tuned up" so to speak.

On the other hand I think im wrong but i was under the impression it was 16-21 in florida as the legal dating age if consented by parents of course. Although at 18 or older they shouldnt be dating anyone 16 but thats just me. If i have a daughter im gonna teach her to be a lesbian cause all men are assholes not to exclude myself of course. This way ill have no problems with boys haha. Yes i know my own intelligence scares myself.

wow after all this time, i just realized how ignorant u assholes all are! story had nothing to do with ''sidewalks, sex offenders'' has to do with not wanting a little girl yes, a little girl walking 2 miles on any street...its not safe now a days...u raise your kids the way you want and let them roam around freely at 10 and let others keep an eye on thier children, lets see whos kids end up in jail at 20...wow, never saw such ignorance in my life..have u seen the missing kids list in the us lately? sorry, it is my job to protect mine and others to do the same. thats what parents do! try it sometime
