It makes me horribly sad that fellow Californians are speaking and writing in to assert that they are racists. What on earth is happening to this8732 world?

Perhaps Americans are sick of being called racists, hate mongers, KKK, White Supremacists, Nazi's, etc.as well as our First Amendment Rights trampled up when we speak up about illegal alien border jumpers.

"I do not feel Bob Kellar meant his remark to be taken as racist. Mr. Kellar did not in any way say that we Americans are superior. He supported one flag, the American flag to be precise, and one language, English, to be spoken and used as the first language. Mr. Kellar was being badgered by the press, and in frustration said what was taken by some to be a racist remark but was just another politically incorrect translation which has become the norm of our society."

Bob Kellar should probably only open his mouth in the future to change feet, LOL. He probably didn't mean what he ended up saying, but he will probably never live it down either.
About what is the legal language of the nation however, I will throw out something that will likely enrage a few. It's not up to any government to tell it's citizens what language to speak. That is fundamental to free speech, isn't it. The government has to accept whatever language the people themselves desire to speak in.
Now, having said that, you can never have cohesion in a nation if everyone speaks a different language. People themselves should decide this, I'n not comfortable when a government mandates a language or, even worse, suppresses a language. Look at all the hate created by the Turks suppression of the Kurdish language, or Spain's suppression of eskudi, the language of the Basques. Cohesion cannot come out of a government law, it has to come voluntarily from the heart. We actually do a far better job than we often give ourselves credit. By the third generation everone speakd English, immigrants assimilate. It could be much different. Be glad we don't have an ETA in the US. The forcible suppression of a popular language, even a minority one, could create exactly that.

Bob Kellar's comments are about nationalism, not racism. It is too bad he doesn't know the difference.

It is both ironic and sad that the most vehement attackers of immigration are the masses of uneducated and misinformed (mostly) white people who, were it not for their forefathers’ immigrant status, would not be here. English, French and even Spanish (read your children’s 4th grade text books) were the languages forced onto the indigenous populations of this vast land. Native Americans then Spaniards were here first. The reason why ‘American English’ is one of the most difficult languages to learn is due to its assortment of words and rules from the “King’s English” and the romance languages. Sigh. I see Irish, Italian and Polish surnames attached to these posts – how long has your family actually been speaking English? You should get on your knees and thank those who came before you and have since provided you the opportunity to be anti-immigrant.

It's ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION. We have laws and a process that must be followed. ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS jump in front of and make a mockery of all the people who waited patiently and did all the hard work to come here legally. Unchecked ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION has taken a toll on our state- it is helping destroy it. La Raza makes me sick, too, with their motto: "For the Hispanic race everything - outside the race, nothing". They are the true racists who instruct illegals to shout RACIST and BIGOT at anyone who doesn't like it. Day laborers are suing Costa Mesa to stand on street corners after they were banned because they were bothering the people who live there. ILLEGALS don't care about civil rights of the citizens of this country, but they'll sue to get theirs. Political correctness is the undoing of our country and they know it and use it to the full extent. Why doesn't La Raza and the Mexican Defense Council sue Mexico for shutting out their own people? Oh, yeah, that would be too hard.

Of course, you're omitting the horrifying blatant human rights violations that exist in all of the countries you mentioned. Must be nice to have such a sense of entitlement that your world should be a perfect little bubble-but those of us in the real world realize that life just isn't that simple, and this issue is a perfect example of the complexities of living in a free, CIVILIZED society. Now, I'm not saying the immigration laws shouldn't be changed-I'm just tired of the people that are so brave behind the safety of their computers that use this immmigration issue to push their veiled racist agendas.

Bob Kellar simply represents the dark side of america. Is he even educated enough to hold his post?
