I hate myself for posting in this feeding the fire to such a horrible topic but this needs to be said
First let me say that I am very close to the Appels but have tried very hard to maintain a very unbiased point of view and these are things that I want to say.
1) the Appels don't want Ray dead stop acting like they wish everything horrible upon him. They are bitter, sure, perhaps even beyond their means, but as previously stated, none should pass judgment until they watch their child slip away.
2) Ray Deckman did not mean to kill Ethan we all know this. However, Ray did intentionally put His life in danger. That was the whole point of jumping the tracks. It is not an issue if Ethan egged him on, its that Ray made the decision to do so. This cannot be argued.
3) About the Plea thing. I was in court that day and that is what the Lawyers told us so I think their word is more credible than whoever said that Two cents was a complete fool.
4) Unfortunately, this is where I pass my judgment. I feel that the sentence Ray got was not enough. In this town, the kids fear getting an underage consumption more than they fear getting reckless op charge or killing one of their friends. They see what happens when kids get caught drinking and they get scared, but when they drive 100mph they think "it wont happen to me" Obviously Ray and his so tragic story had absolutely no effect on the community as he served his measly 60 days in jail. Had he served a few months in Juvie, as I thought was the best solution ( I didnt want his future ruined with a record, however I didnt think he deserved to live his life like nothing happened, Prom King, Seriously? half time dance routines seriously?) These rewards are a slap in the face to the Appel family. And had Ray been dealt with as he should have been, perhaps Stephen Ellenberger would still be alive.
In a world where Michael Vick serves YEARS for abusing animals, don't you think taking a life and destroying others should be dealt with more appropriately than 60 days?
