Think of a large fast growing tree with a beautiful redish grain pattern that functions like redwood or cedar in outdoor useage. On top that add plentiful and nutritious nuts.

This tree is decidely missed on the American scene.
It is a lot like oak but is far superior in most respects.

So how do we get in touch with the farmer so we can get some seedlings for next year? Please email doug.bassett@comcast.net.

Thanks.

At $5 a seedling, no wonder he wants to get the UN to begin planting them in Africa . . .
Good news indeed

Too bad it comes from public radio, instead of the PP. What gives? Too many reporters covering crime?

If trees could scream, would we be so cavalier about cutting them down?
We might, if they screamed all the time, for no good reason.

Restoring chestnuts to their original range would be great, but not introducing them to where they do not belong. Growing ANYTHING outside of its' natural range is introducing an invasive species that will have a negative effect on the local ecosystem.
How much native forest in Africa will be cut down to grow plantations of this new crop? Will anything native to the region be able to live in those newly-introduced trees? These questions should be considered BEFORE this scheme is underway.

Daily Horoscope for December 17

Leo

If you're going to a festive party or gathering today you'll have a great time. It will be good to see some old faces and nice to meet some new ones. Don't be shy about breaking the ice if you spot someone you'd like to know better, as with Mars in your sign dancing with Venus in fiery Sagittarius, bells will ring and fires light up. Get the last of those Christmas cards out of the way now, so they're not on your conscience.
