well oiled machine please stop drinking the chief's punch and save yourself before it is too late. As I stated thank god chiefs don't stay for thirty years anymore. I'm glad firefighters stay for thirty plus years and invest in the community. You state the chief and the ones before him are doing great. Do you remember a chief by the name of John Soave? If this is your measure of greatness, lord have mercy.I don't think this chief could lead a one car funeral let alone run a department. The department is a great one, nobody said it wasn't. We are just talking about the chief. If you watch town meetings how often does the chief actually fight for his department? The answer is never. We all know there is a recession and monies are tight but if a department head stands before town meeting and lays it out there for all to see and hear and shows some emotion for his department and its members people may take a second look at things and not keep putting things off year after year.If one is afraid to make a mistake or look bad, one can and never will lead effectively. Now that the town manager is leaving there will be no one left to tell the chief what to do. Stay tuned.

Good job on that Clapp Street trailer fire. That is a congested neighborhood with cars parked on both sides of the street. It could have gotten nasty real quick. Thanks!

This was a trailer fire not a six story building this was something the fire chief could have handled.

Was that question a joke or a riddle? Read the newspapers. Have you ever heard or other calls? You could have taken your life in your own hands and called the SPD. You'd still be waiting unless you were giving away stolen merchandise or drugs. Sincerely though. Sorry to hear it took that long. They just keep saying budget cuts. But, where are the cuts? Not in man power. JUST IN SERVICE it appears.

Tax Payer, the shift manning is only 11 members on duty at full strength. When all 11 members are on duty they are able to staff 2 engines and 2 ambulances. When the manning drops below 11 which it does more than 50% of the time, one ambulance comes out of service which leaves only one ambulance to cover the town. It is very common to have 2, 3, and 4 ambulances from other towns in Stoughton handling calls. Over 300 hundred times this year other ambulances have had to cover this town and it will end up being close to 400 times by the end of the year. Stoughton does not get that money for the transport either (look up the ambulance rates and calculate that out). Hopefully your mother made out okay. You are actuall lucky that Avon is close to Stoughton. Easton and Canton can take alot longer to get here. Your statement above says budget cuts, but where are the cuts, not in manpower just in service. Quick lesson. The department used to have 13 members assigned to each shift. Then there was a town wide budget problem, so the department cut five positions (1 deputy chief and 4 firefighter spots) and this dropped the manning to 12 per shift. Now this round of budget problems comes along and the department drops 4 more firefighter spots and goes to 11 per shift. So there's your cut in manpower. Need anything else explained just ask. And listen to a scanner and see how many times the department has nothing available to send to a call and has to rely on other towns to get there first. Can you hold your breath for 10 or 11 minutes til help gets there? People are now starting to see the services have to decrease and they don't like it and they should not have to, but right now thats just the way it is.

Did anyone listen to the scanner this morning around 8:00 a.m. when 5 ambulance calls came in at once. Stoughton took 3, Avon 1 and Canton 1.
Thanks guys. I personally had to call for an ambulance several months ago and at 5:30 p.m. had to wait for Sharon to arrive. The guys on the Stoughton Engine did the best they could until help arrived to transport. This is reality. I pray each day that no one (SFD or resident) loses their life because of this.

Thank you (reality) and I will buy a scanner becaues I can't hold my breath that long, and it's becomeing more and more clear the fire chief and the TM. do not care about the lives of the people in this town or the firefighters. one is leaving and the other should be fired. The fire union puts up with this incompatant chief.
these facts should be put to the people, before we have a death.
the fire chief takes chances with over 400 lives a year by not staffing the second Amb.over %50 of the time, what is this chief spending the overtime money on.

Where is the fire chief spending the over time money, and he should be ashamed of this kind of leadership. or lack of leadership, the TM. and the BOS. let this go on are they spending to much time on the police the FBI does not work for them.
let pay attention to the rest of the town.

Daily Horoscope for January 6

Capricorn

Don't let anyone stand in the way of your progress and don't reveal personal secrets. You could very easily become run down at the moment. An empty promise could leave you feeling sad. If you're working today, there could be some problems: stick to your own work and make sure that someone doesn't try to take credit for your efforts.
