I cannot recall the last time ANY ELECTED OFFICIAL stood up for the people of Los Angeles AFTER being elected. They all say the right things on the campaign trail, and then as soon as they're elected they forget who voted for them and why.

We threw out a career politician to put a breath of fresh air in City Hall and Trutanich did not let us down. When the dust settles and the City of Los Angeles is sued by all the companies challenging the special treatment that AEG got thanks to Jan Perry, it won't be Jan Perry who reaches into her pocket to pay off the lawsuits, it will be our tax money, our roads not being fixed, our cops not getting hired, and our city infrastructure crumbling all because Jan Perry and the rest of the cowards on the council did not have the guts to say 'No' to AEG.

Trutanich proposed a reasonable solution - go to the judge who is handling all 28 billboard lawsuits and ask the judge if giving AEG special treatment will violate the new billboard ban. Perry pretends she knows better than a judge. Who is she to gamble with our tax dollars?

It was embarrassing to watch all the council cowards bowing down to AEG, more than half of them didn't know what they were talking about and kept on saying "vetted rights" as if those were the magic words to justify they treachery. These uneducated slobs didn't even know that the correct term was "vested rights," but it made no difference to them. They are loyal to big money and that was the lesson Los Angelenos learned from Friday's session in City Hall.

Keep up the good work Carmen Trutanich, you are the Peoples' Lawyer!

Richard, one of the primary problems with this depression is the lack of available credit. Firms cannot take out loans to pay operating costs much less to expand. Individuals borrowing is extremely difficult right now. Meanwhile, home values have fallen over thirty percent, stock values were cut in half and wages have fallen as six million Americans lost their jobs. This is exactly the same as a huge decrease in the nation's money supply. If, as most know, printing money during good times inevitably leads to inflation, then the converse is likewise true, that taking money out of an economy will lead to deflation. We are on the verge of this today. Prices and wages overall have declined in the US.
To counteract that one tool a nation can use is to inflate the economy. I am well aware of the visceral fear everyone has of inflation. We are nowhere near that. We are in deflation, and inflationary policies are needed to counteract the market and prevent even more people from going underwater on loans. The money supply has decreased radically since 2007, inflationary measures are needed to restore the money supply, arrest the decline and begin to bring about new economic growth.
A sad side effect of this are low interest rates. Only by the Fed lowering it's open market rate can it prod banks into lending, and even this has had limited effects recently. Raising interest rates right now would choke off the small amount of lending going on right now and push the economy into a very nasty deflation.
