These clubs (post) are full of drunks, most of them in their late 60s or 70s. They go from one club to the next. Be careful when you see any one exit from the american legion on main st in canandaigua ny, good chance there half cocked. I was a past comander at a legion, not just for me but most of the members I knew, it was just a privet drinking hole where I could get drinks about 1/2 price. Spend my days & nights drinking while talking about all the good things we do for the veterns. Truth is we had a VA hosiptol less then 1/2 a mile from the legion, and I never once took the time to go visit any veterns or ask if there was anything they needed. In fact many homeless veterns walk the streets of Canandaigua ny,but we didn't want any of them as members of our post. So when driving by a american legion or VFW be careful watch for cars exiting, theres a good chance a drunk driver is behind that wheel.

Well Bill B., I guess you belong to a different American Legion than I do. Now I am NOT a spokes person for Post 256, however, I take exception to your ramblings directed at a fine Post and Legion Family.
I have been a member of Post 256 for 40 years and can remember many good things that we have done and are still doing for our fellow veterans, along with the Auxiliary and the Sons of the American Legion.
Perhaps your memory is of a “private drinking hole”. Mine is one of the Legion Family, the comradery with my fellow veterans, a type of comradery that only one who is a veteran will ever know. I have shared in there joy and sorrow over the years. I remember the special programs for the kids the Post sponsors and the smiles on their faces. I remember the solemn moments, when we remember those that did not come home with us, those that made the ultimate sacrifice. I remember 9-11.
The thing I don’t remember is all of those drunks in their late 60s or early 70s.
Bill B., since you spend your “days and nights” at the “private drinking hole”, partaking in those “half priced drinks”, would you mind leaving your vehicle description and license number with the bartender the next time you stop in. You see, I frequently drive on that stretch of North Main Street and I don’t want to get hit by a “half cocked” driver leaving the Post.

For your info Gary M, take all the exception you want with my so-called ramblings ? I too remember those who did not come home with us. And the sorrow of 9-11,many fine people have made the ulimate sacifice for our freedom. And to imply that I was putting down our legion family in anyway is not what I intended to do. Yes there are many fine legioniers. As with any club there are the good and the bad. I am also a member at the Elks lodge, and have been for many years, just as the american legion ? they have there good and bad. But lets face it ? throwing a picnic once a year for some retarded kids doesn't earn you the noble peace prize ? nice yes, but the truth is only 5 or 6 of your members even know theres a picnic going on out back, next time try putting a jug of bell jar tickets and a keg of beer at the picnic,it would be a free for all with most of the members. Thats one way to get the "family" together. Maybe your mananger could bartend at the picnic ? of course with a tip jar out ? he might even give the kids rides on the tractor while he mows the grass on legion time ? So much for your comradery. The truth is when driving by there watch your self ? There are many eldarly members who can not handle there booze as well as you,and that may impact there driving abilty. It's not about being a good vetern ? or about half priced drinks. It's about driver safety. I think the applesauce is going to your head ?

First and foremost as a member I am completley offended. Yea these people may drink yea they may be inticed by beer and gambling. Honestly you are a joke for trying to judge anyone who has served this country. They have potential for ptsd and other disorders that are not cured by booze but in their eyes help them cope. It' not right but neither is war neither is you self righteous attitude that you believe gives you rightsto talk garbage about veterans of war. This is slander and you should be sued for you arrogence and ideocracies get a life and check yourself before you point the figer at someone else. Half priced and Bill B.probably are fighting their own demons that they are insecure with and are obviously partaking in these accusitory statments if they know so much about them.

Be real Bill B. YOU are not out for the safty of other drivers in fact you said your self you were one of them. Your problem is with someone or something at the post, man up and address them face to face. Writing it on the internet in hopes the right person see's this is pathetic. And to talk about the bar mananger in such a way is out of control. He is a good person and gives 100% to that place every day. May be if you were not half cocked when you left you would beable to see that.i was once told "if you cant tell me your promble then i guess you realy dont have one." I hope you get what iam saying.

Ahhh Bill B or should I call you Bill Bailey?? You were just suspended for 30 days for behaviour problems at the Post weren"t you?? and because of your behaviour and the consequences which followed, you are trying to take revenge by spewing forth accusations which are just that. When you drank your brandy and beer at the Post, you were a tough guy..now that you have transferred to another Post, you haven't seemed to improve..You are a past Commander of the Sons of the American Legion. Spewing your hatred because of your sins is not becoming of a past officer or anyone for that matter. So Mr. B. Bailey, I do hope you have seen that you have stepped into something you should apologize for. Please improve your spelling and your sentence structure before writing again..I believe some of the members will see you at your new post home this fine morning at the breakfast your new post home is putting on..God Bless America. God bless our troops.
