Ohio House Passes 'Heartbeat' Abortion Bill | WBNS-10TV, Central Ohio News

Who said you can't legislate morality? What happened with separation of church and state? This should be a personal issue.

All this will do is force women into backroom abortion clinics. At 6-8 weeks some women don't even know they're pregnant. Trust me, the moral majority may have won this battle, but it will not stop women who want an abortion from getting one.

This will never become law. It's unconstitutional on so many levels. This bill was introduced simply as a way for the Republicans to pander to their religiously-fanatic base. By its introduction they can say, "See...We tried. We failed miserably, but dagnabit, we tried."

This is truly a sad day to be living in Ohio.

As important as this is, why was this not brought to the people for a vote?
We all know the mumble-jumble the house would have given for a reason but bottom line is they KNEW it would fail if left to those who this effects the most.

Do we have to outdo Kansas at being backwards? I'll not be surprised if they pass this completely, followed by a bill forbidding evolution in the classroom.

I applaud this decision! This has nothing to do with religion. It has to do with the fact that there is a living being with a heartbeat in there that does not deserve to be tossed away like yesterdays trash.

I am sad women in Ohio will be forced to rush when making the biggest decision of their lives when faced with an unplanned pregnancy. I am against having an abortion for ME, but PRO CHOICE for every other woman in this country.

Let the backdoor alley abortion clinics start its engines!! SAD SAD I am disappointed in our legislators especially any women legislators who voted yes.

Don't you people realize they know this is unconstitutional, they are using it for a tool to bring the abortion fight to the Supreme Court again...

As a lead in to try to overturn Roe V Wade.

It is my body and it SHOULD be MY choice. Isn't that what being a "free" American is supposed to mean?

Roe vs. Wade is still the law of the land and it specifically does not allow state laws prohibiting abortion in the first trimester. It will never see the light of day

So if I believe that abortion is murder I'm a religious fanatic? Wow. How sad this world has become when people fight for the right to kill their children.

You can applaud it all you want, but don't get too excited since it will never become law. It is blatantly unconstitutional

"Those who this effects the most" are the children who are being aborted. I'm pretty sure they'd choose to live instead of being murdered by their mothers!

I agree with Mort. I personally don't agree with abortion. It isn't something I would EVER do. No matter the circumstance. Even if my child were going to die a few hours after birth, I would give them those few hours. BUT that's my personal feelings/opinion and in reality, has nothing to do with religion. Religion has no place in law. It never has. That's why we've(almost always) had separation of church and state. It isn't my place to tell another woman she has no right to an abortion. Just because our laws say a woman has that right, doesn't mean we have to like it either.

We has people need to grow up, and realize that what people do in their personal lives, for the most part doesn't effect us. Does it really effect you if some woman half way across the country has an abortion? Does it really effect you if the gay couple up the street get married? No, it doesn't.

I don't agree with the government paying for unnecessary abortions. I see no problem why they shouldn't pay for ones that are needed. Why should, say, a 16 year old girl, raped, by a stranger or family member, be forced to carry that baby to term because she can't afford it herself? Or an adult for that matter. Why should a mother be forced to give birth to a child that will die, that could kill her in the process, because she can't afford it?

Sadly, yes people do use it as a form of birth control. But you have just as many people that need them for medical reasons.

How hard is it to leave it legal, but not past the 20th week of pregnancy(unless medically necessary). And people foot the bill for it themselves(unless medically necessary, encompassing major emotional stress as well. And I mean on traumatizing level, such as my example earlier).

It REALLY is that simple. Leave your personal feelings out of it. Do we as a country really want to go back to the days of botched back alley abortions? History has proved, there's people willing to do it at the right price. And people needlessly lose their lives over it.

Why is abortion Pro-Choice? The baby doesn't have a choice. For those who say it restricts their freedom, well guess what, it eliminates the baby's freedom of choice. Lets stop killing over a million babies a year who should have a voice in this as well.

A life is a life! that is a fact, you can try and sugar coat it all you like but at the end of the day you are taking a life when you have an abortion. Regardless of Religous views, I thought we were supposed to protect the weakest among us and be their voice!!! I'm thankful we have an opprotunity to answer the silent screams of these Poor children! Thank You Ohio!!!

Funny- I do not remember having that choice when my mother was pregnant with me. Do you remember being in the womb? I sure don't!
