Plan to test N.H.'s older drivers said to be unfair

mayby we should get to gether and vote as a block.vote out anybody that votes a gainst people over 70.on our test for driving

the law is unfair to make us over 70 to get tested.next they will want over 60. vote them out of office.8558

Some of us would rather kill ourselves or someone we love or a stranger that no longer have the skills. I just turned sixty and will be calling my AARP to update my skills. Find them not to be up to pare lately.
Lets face it folks with the medications we take later in life and our reflexes changing we need the testing. Saftey first since I drive my beloved grandchilden to and fro.

Truth be known, driving is a skill and most 70 year olds have been driving for 50 or more years and are highly skilled at it and exert better judgement than young drivers.

I think the testing is a good idea. A older persons eye sight and reflexes are not alway what they were when they were in their 20s. Once at the DMV I saw a man around 60 doing the eye test and could only read the top leater the huge E. he should never have been behind the wheel with eyesight like that. sorry folks it is a good idea just to keep things safe. My parents who are turning 60 also think this is a grate idea.

On the flip side of this question: Older drivers have the most experience driving. Teens are in far more accidents than older drivers. As an older driver, 67, I find I am much more careful, don't drive at excessive speeds, don't switch back and forth from lane to lane, don't tailgate, don't use a cell phone while driving, and MOST IMPORTANTLY, don't drink and drive. In addition to all of this; if more tests are given to older drivers who have low incomes (at least lower than when we were working) just who is going to pay for these tests? I say it is unfair discrimination. Why should more experienced drivers have to pay for more tests? I think teens should be tested more often and have more restrictions on their driving. Restrictions like not having other teens in the car until they reach age 18, or having a restriction on the hours they can be on the road - like no driving between the hours of midnight and 5:00 a.m. and a D.W.I. conviction for any blood alcohol test over .05.

i was behind my father when he plowed into the end of a guard rail.. thank God he was in a heavy car todays carts he would of been dead no dought. it scared the life out of me and i hated to say dad its not worth it. you see when i was behind him he drove through a stop light that was red there is no dought God was with him the cars came to a sceaching hault. after that i loved him enough to tell him no more driving. he was not a happy camper but i knew deep in my heart i was right. he died four months later of a heart attack.

I think it's a very good law. My mom is 76 and I gotta tell ya, I wouldn't get in the car with her anymore! As a matter of fact, I told her about her driving and she listened to me. She only drives now short distances, like to go to the store,(maybe 10 blocks) but that's even scary.

I live in Concord. And for any of you that know Loudon Rd. in Concord, you'd have to agree with me on this. There are so many accidents on that road, and most of them are involving the elderly. At least that's what I see every time I pass them. I'm constantly getting cut off, or they change lanes, come out of store lots, etc. without even looking. Example: ACCIDENT!

Then passing the test shouldn't be a problem.

If re-testing is such a great idea, then why restrict it to just those over a certain age?

All of the negative issues presented against senior drivers are valid... to a point.

That is, we all "age" differently. There is no set age when, all of a sudden, everyone's eyesight begins to fail. Or an age at which everyone's reflexes begin to slow. Or where the ability of our mind to take in and evaluate all that our senses are picking up begins to deteriorate.

Sure, i see older drivers doing foolish things (and most of them have been well spelled out here), but I see drivers of all ages doing much the same sort of foolish things.

And worse. If lack of skills (alleged) on the part of seniors are enough to have their licenses revoked, than these same lack of skills in a driver of any age should result in the self-same action.
