Full story: Seacoast Online

The state Senate voted Wednesday to move New Hampshire a step closer to becoming the fifth state to allow gay marriage , but made a distinction between religious and civil ceremonies, bringing back an idea the House rejected in March.

"The marriage of a man and a woman is not based on prejudice but on the fact of human nature," Republican Sen. Robert Letourneau of Derry said. "Only a man and a woman can bear children.... Only through the union of a man and a woman life can begin and a child can have a father and a mother."

So only people who can and are willing to have children should be allowed to get married? Hmmm...

What about mixed-gender couples that are unable to have children for a medical reason ? Should they be not allowed to marry ?

What about transgender people ? Should they not be allowed to marry ?

Bob Letourneau, AKA Radio Bob, is now...and always has been....a jerk. He's a biker, hangs out with some seriously unsavory characters. Take it for what it's worth and consider the source. Bob's always good for a controversial quote.

...and only the union of man and a woman can create beautiful borngay babies. Thank you, man and woman unions. We now populate 83% of the planet.

Some children grow up with only a father or a mother, or neither. Some children have more than a father and a mother. Jesus had two fathers and his mother wasn't married; and he turned out ok.

Those who oppose marriage equality keep dragging out the procreation argument as though it has any bearing on the issue. It reveals that they really don't think about the issue at all, they just try to prop up their prejudice with the first thing that comes to mind.

Many gay couples I know have children, from a variety of means, and many heterosexual couples I know have no children at all. So What?

The desire to nurture children is much more important than the desire or ability to procreate, and the desire to form legally and socially sanctioned pair-bonds is more important than the fear, ignorance, and religious objections to doing so.

If you are not gay, don't marry a gay person. If you are gay, you should be allowed to do so. How difficult is that to understand?
