Obama again put his political capital on the line and was rejected. Firts it happened with the olympic bid, now with n.j. and va. He does not have much political capital left. He has spent much on health care reform. Stated with we need to pass this before the August recess. Then a date in Oct. Then the end of the year. Now it is said that it will not be voted on until after the first of the year. This president is becoming the biggest joke in our nations history. The problem is it is not funny.

there was no imcumbent in va. it also was not close. the repub won by 19% in a state that obammy just carried last nov. this was a huge turnaround.

Political Science 101: As much as McGruff would like to blame the governors races in Va and NJ on Obama it's just not that simple. The governors race in NJ was pretty well decided when they increased property taxes through the roof and had very little to do with Obama plus the fact that historically whichever party held the white house for the last 24 years lost the governors race in NJ. VA is even worse as whichever party was in the white house has lost the governor's race since 1977. You need to quit making inferences from data that do not say what you want it to. Try looking at NY-23 house race. The democrat beat the right wing conservative with the help of the (party hand picked) moderate republican that dropped out of the race and campaigned for the democrat. What knid of inferences do you make about Obama from that little political exercise? Biden went there and campaigned for the democrat. Does that mean Obama's administration has the power to destroy the republican party and join forces with them to defeat the right wing radicals? No, but it makes as much sense as the other inferences.

Maybe they lost in NJ because of ACORN's legal problems. The democrats couldn't get enough dead people, dogs, and cats registered to vote.

so why did obama campaign in va and nj? if he didnt think he could influence the races then he would not have wasted his time. his clout is gone. we will see in 2010 when demos lose many house seats, and maybe enough to change the power. you will also see that moderate dems will now think twice about supporting the health care bill before congress.

I told you probably 2 months ago that I would expect to see significant gains by the republican party in the midterm elections (2010). That's just how the pendulum swings. It has happened for years after the presidential elections. I know you're on Social Security so you've been around long enough to see this firsthand. Why do you pawn it off now as some cataclismic event for the republican party? IT IS NOT. It is only the same thing that's happened for years.

There is damn sure one thing you did not see in the governor's race in New Jersey or Virginia. Nobody wanted to parade George Dubya Bush around to campaign for the republicans. Wonder why?

I really doubt that you have ever stood still for a second to listen to anything a liberal democrat had to say. You would rather flip over to your channel and listen to another reactionary tell you what the democrat said. That is kind of like not watching the game, just watching the post-game show and listening to how those guys viewed the game.

the know it all wrote: Truth, you have really done your homework. Great post. Thanks KIA. The exit polls were very significant and I don't remember the numbers exactly but these are close. In VA and NJ they asked about how people were affected by Obama. Something like 18% said they voted for the candidate because of Obama, 22% voted against the candidate because of Obama and 54% said Obama had no effect on their vote. Quite honestly I would think local issues would prevail as determining voting patterns. I'm sure there will be more polls tonight.

The pendulum did not swing in '02 midterm elections after George Bush's first election victory in 2000. So much for being so "well informed".
