The California Jobs Initiative (CJI) is an oil corporation farce and fraud. There is no connection, whatsoever, between greenhouse gas emission reduction and the loss of jobs. This notion is an insult to the intelligence of the people of California. In fact, there is job growth in the clean, renewable energy industry. Chevron employs 65,000 worldwide and CJI is not going to change this. The only jobs created by the oil industry are clean-up jobs after oil spills and deep water, blow-outs and pump-handler jobs. CJI will make fantastic profits for the oil industry, increase air pollution, especially in communities around their refineries and there will not be lower gas prices. Koch Industries, Valero and Tesoro are super Enrons. Since when did the oil companies start to show any concern for the unemployed and their families and for small businesses?

Patterson needs a written response although the city manager already said Valero wasn't ready for a deal. Mayor doesn't believe the city manager who earns $240,000 a year? L O L

I totally agree with Earl Richard's post. The Benicia City Council showed their true colors by neither endorsing nor refusing to endorse. They're Valero's stooges, who are willing to roll over and play dead for a dog treat.

Seems a bit cowardly to me. Elected officials avoiding the tough decisions.

CJI is an appeal to people who can actually think, and know how much of a farce these greenhouse emissions rule are. CARB and the EPA have a continuous record of being controlled by the anti-scientific frauds who would have us think the sky is falling, and it's all the fault of mankind. Right. And so were all the climate changes before man even came on the scene. Want to see jobs keep disappearing? Keep up this green farce.

The only ones profiting from the greeness nonsense and bs are the Al Gores of the world who sees fit to travel the globe via private jet, and needs opulent mansions in Tennessee and Santa Barbara to rest his weary bones after a day of peddling his snake oil. He also resides in a posh pad in the St. Regis in SF. Poor baby! Richards and his ilk need to stop drinking their meals from brown paper bags, or go back to rehab. Bro, the sky is not falling.

Ya, and Valero and Tesoro, Texas oil refineries, have the best interests of California residents and whether or not they have jobs. Are you serious??? They don't give a crap about you, me or anyone else in this state, it's all about the profits baby.

I completely and totally disagree with you. I DO NOT WANT my city council endorsing ANY item on the ballot. They need to concentrate on fixing the problems that exist in the city they represent - the budget deficit, the development of the Seeno property, the Lower Arsenal. The list goes on and on. They were elected to do CITY business and city business only.

Turns out that the prop 32 data was flawed, the state admitted today that they over estimated diesel emissions by over 300 percent, honest mistake? Not!!!

I agree with the other posters that said this council shouldn't even be voting on this issue, why are they? How did it even get on the Agenda? I think the bigger story is the 11 million they want to spend on solar panels and a couple windmills,at a projected saving of 100,000 dollars a year, roughly, do we even know? It would take over 30 years to recover that money, that equipment won't even last that long, and that's not even counting the maintenance. I'm all for clean energy but something doesn't seem right here either! Am I missing something?

They give me a nice pay check twice a month wich comes out to over $130,000 a year, along with about 600 other people employed by Tesoro. Thats not even counting the thousands of contractors that depend on the oil refinerys to feed their familys, plus the money that goes to the city's that are lucky enough to have refinerys in them.

They might not give a crap about me, and thats just the way I like it as long as that money keeps coming in.

Want a perfect example of what happens when a industry that props up a city financialy leaves?

Take a long hard look at Vallejo, when Bill Clinton shut down Mare Island Navel Base this is what you end up with.

So here we are with another JOB killing bill drummed up by democrats to chase more jobs out of California, I'm sure the last tax payer will turn the light out when they leave this state.

Benicia City Council may not be taking a stand on Prop23, but dozens of other city councils are speaking out against this dirty attempt to squash clean energy. See the list of over 200 businesses, health organizations, community groups and yes, city councils who are saying NO to Prop23.
