Back in about 1994, I was still working in the factory when we had a meeting with one of the police detectives that came in and said a few word about Logansport crime at that time. She had stated that the crime is on the rise because of the raise of the hispanic population. She had stated that on some of the signs in Mexco,they advertised that Logansport was a good place to find jobs. She also stated that when they came, they brought the drugs and the gangs also.( not to mention every family member they had.)Just about every time I read the paper about the police reports, there are a number of hispanics without a driver's license caught driving.
And you are right about the homes needing repair, but the thing about that is that only the hispanic have the money to fix their house.
Like I said, I am a stay-home-mom and I can no longer aford to stay home. I love being home with my kids and I am desperate to have some sort of stay-home job, but there is nothing but scam advertisements for stay-home jobs unless you want to babysit. It worries me when my son's attitude tward us, being his parents and wanting him to do what he is told, changed as soon as he started kindergarten. The kids today are being brought up with the same selfish and disrespect for others that their parents have. It is a very sad, sad place to be in anymore.

I saw one man tail gated for several blocks, even though it was a one way street with 3 lanes and very lite traffic...I stopped when they stopped and the red neck tail gater in the pick up truck cursed and made threats of physcal harm to the other driver...right in front of the city building where the police department is located. The cops were called...but the red neck was let go....so if you are into road rage move to Logansport, they let you get away with it.
I saw a 17 year old boy have a verbal dispute with his father....the father sucker punched the boy in the stomach...putting the boy on his knees! Again I saw police cars arrive...no one went to jail!
I saw another teen boy sitting in his car eating burgers & fries when some red neck 50ish guy began yelling and cursing at him for a pile of ashes and cig butts on the ground by the boy's car...the boy said he had just parked there minutes ago and that he didn't smoke and the pile wasn't his. The man called the boy a liar...among other things....no police this time, the kid left.
Logansport has churches and bars on nearly every street; half the people I saw walking around were well over-weight or had serious dental problems. I spoke to several, some seemed afraid of a stranger saying hello...other quickly wanted to tell me how awful their life is on disability and how hard it is to pay bills.
I'm disabled but from California...I guess the income is a lot different. My 19 year old works part time for 7.85 and hour plus he makes about 30 dollars in tips a night as a server. I was told the average wage in Logansport was six bucks an hour.
I would love to see a study on what percentage of the population has been arrested in the last 20 years, its a small town of less than 17,000 people with a city police force of 55 officers...that alone says a lot.
The main streets through town look very nice, but turn off into the side streets and not only are the streets bad but the houses are falling apart and junk cars sit everywhere. I counted over 90 homes that had serious roof damage and when I asked if there had been a storm everyone said no.
One friendly older man told me that in the mid 90's several factories closed their doors, since then the only new jobs have been a hog processing plant that employs about 2300 people and over half of those workers are hispanics that moved into the city starting around 1994.
I saw one city park, on wheatland avenue, that has a large flood wall to protect it from the eel river...small children, and I do mean toddlers, walking around the park all alone, no adult in sight. Across the street a house with several rose bushes and children pulling the roses and throwing them on the ground...this speaks so much of what typical life would be like in this town.
Sad sad sad sad. I would so love to see cnn do a spot light series on the people of this town, a mental hospital is near the city...I suspect the city population are former patients.
