Haha! Thats ridiculous! There are no gangs in Cambridge. Just a bunch of kids with alot of energy and no outlet. They spraypaint on walls due to the lack of sports and art programs that the city desperatly needs. ooohhh!

I've also heard about the gangs here in Dorchester County, and I believe it to be true.
Lately I've been seeing the CPD (Cambridge Police Department) Patroling different areas in there vehicles, on foot, on the bikes, they are definitely in the community....So KUDOS to the Cambridge Police Department for no longer tolerating the mess that has been going on for the longest...
I feel safer

why don't these kids get a job, help at the senior centers, work on volunteer projects, help some of the residents "clean up the town", be an asset to the town and not a problem. this are things to do so they wouldn't have so much time on their hands. where does everyone get this idea the public have to keep these kids entertained. the schools have courts for basketball, etc. unless these kids found fun in destroying them

J_A_C_K-- your comments pertain to Cambridge Massachusetts rather than to Cambridge Maryland, but I'm very glad you posted anyway. Could you please help us understand the difference between real gangs and groups of teenagers who just rep a territory? I'm not being sarcastic at all here-- I know that kids in thee groups DO make this distinction, but I don't understand it and I'm sure this distinction is lost on most other adults as well. Can you tell us precisely what territory NC and Port have a beef over? Also, where does the "44" in Port 44 come from? I promise I'm not a cop, I'm just concerned about a kid who "reps da Port." How do you know their beef with NC is going to get bigger? That sounds potentially violent. What do *YOU* as a teenager think his family should do to help him stay safe, short of chaining him to his bedpost?(Please, people, no trolls or flaming! Our kids deserve our best constructive efforts!)
Thank you!

Karen, gangs always start somewhere. Maybe at first it's just a bunch of kids being stupid tagging and running around trying to look tough. But these grow into the type of gangs we have here in LA. Ruthless killers, drug pushers and pimps. If the gangs are not taken control of when they are nothing but o bunch of boys being boys, these boys will turn into criminals. I hope that this does not happen, but that will only be if the problem is not ignored.

There is no evidence to support that there is real gang activity in Cambridge. I see groups of people on scooters, kids lacking a father figure and older boys and girls trying to re-create situations they learn from music and television. I work in the projects everyday. Yes there is an obvious indication that crime is alwys occuring. Not organized though. Its just a percentage of people in the community that infect our youth with their bullshit behavior.
