As an English major, your skill with the written word is evident. However, your ability to persuade is lacking. How a commercial with a lame attempt at humor can be held as a shining example of the 'crass consumerism gripping our youth' is beyond me.

My eight-year old daughter is a big fan of Montana/Cyrus, and we went through the big hassle of getting her tickets for a show (10th row). We paid double the face value...a little pricey but not budget-breaking.

My daughter has no idea if we paid $2 or $2 million for the tickets. What she does know is that she had a night to remember forever.

And as this one night does not represent the entirety of my parenting, I have managed over her eight years to squeeze in some instruction about humility, compassion, the value of hard work, right from wrong, and more.

Also, as a parent I appreciate the positive role model this young star provides. Underneath your clever writing you reveal you really know little about Cyrus.

Parenting is hard: work all day, pay the bills, plan for the future, teach your kids to be good people, make sure they are healthy and educated, and on and on and on. But then you do something special, like the concert, and see the pure, innocent, unencumbered joy on your child's face...and in that moment the hard work of parenting doesn't seem so hard after all.

I could go on and on, but my daughter is waiting for me to help her with her math homework (my favorite part of the day).

My children and I have met many celebrities. Since i have children now i have become a huge fan of their music too. We were insulted, publicly humiliated by these people. What started out as a great day (i even checked my kids out of school to go try to meet Miley) turned into a nightmare! We have met alot of stars, my favorites Hilary Duff and Ali and AJ. They seemed just as thrilled to meet us as we were them. i'm sure meeting fans can get aggravating but IF YOU DON'T WANT FANS DON'T BE FAMOUS and........sorry to say, but some are lucky to become stars, some work hard and acieve stardom, and some are born to a star and made into one. No offense to Miley it's great that she has become what she is, but remember girl, it's your fans that buy each cd, poster, t'shirt, and concert ticket. remember behind every cd sale is a person. that day was especially tramatic to my son. Those guys/men with her enterage acted like she was the fricken pope. how stupid

I have read the posts listed and you too have some pathetic people in your area. The real tragedy here is that there are people who are clearly taking advantage of the desire of the youth in your area to see Hannah (as they did here and Tampa. This is clearly an excellent show and is also an opportunity to speak with your child on the value of family and friends. Miley cannot see everyone or for that matter meet everyone. Explain that too your child and use her as a role model in a role model absent world. Interact with your child in a positive way and you will bring home as much fun as I did after watching the faces of my 10 and 5 year old. I got lucky, I got tickets for face value, lets get behind the effort to force these venues to make these tickets affordable instead of tring to take us to task like actual parent does. I was fortunate there are many who are not and the empty seats that were in the New Orleans arena was very evident. Please if you can see the show, do, spend it with your child and have a great, positive, family building experience

Yep! They are making a bundle on Hanna. Better do it while they can before she get a little older, starts to sag a bit or Heaven Forbid, she gets all knocked up. Saphrona Wyoming is right behind her when Disney burns her completely out and she gets like Britney. Don't let your little girl's admire this heffer as a role model too much.

I wish I had a nickel for everytime I've heard the statement from a Mom, "Oh, but it was worth the money just to see the joy on my daughter's face," in relation to buying their child one more expensive gadget, or an over-priced concert ticket. My point is how about teaching your children the gift of giving as you provide them with an opportunity to share their time, talents, and money with people who are weak or needy? Or help people who are challenged because of a disability. I am embarrased by the justifications Moms use when they dole out outrageous amounts of money for their children's activities. Isn't it our responsiblity to teach our children to to be dependable, disciplined and have integrity. I love music as much as anyone, but I'm trying to teach my 8-year old that being seen and being at a concert isn't as important as it seems. How old were any of you Moms when you attended your first concert? Will our kids have any firsts left by the time they are in high school when they are given so much at such a young age? I think we need to think about where our values are placed.

Daily Horoscope for December 1

Sagittarius

As much as the robust Archer would like to indulge, today you must mind your health. If you go out to celebrate the holidays, go easy on the rich foods and spirits. Too much alcohol and you might find yourself saying the absolute wrong thing to the right person, thus blowing what could be a perfectly lovely evening. Strive for moderation.
