Wasn't the officer cut? If so then the first course of action he took wasn't pulling his gun. Obviously he attempted some other course of action if he got cut.

I'm sure as the officers were driving to the scene they were running through the different scenarios in their heads as to what could potentially happen or if they were seasoned relying on previous experiences to base their decisions off of. When people go through training like police officers do there's a reason for all of the repetitive training. It's so that the reactions become instinctive. It's like a massive flow chart running through your head in a matter of seconds.

BTW they don't teach cops to shoot to wound....they teach them shoot to kill. If they're in a position to use their gun then the threat to life be it theirs or someone elese's is imminent.

You're as bad as the guy saying the cop shouldn't have used his gun. Why is the kid an animal? He had a mental disorder. That wasn't his fault he was born that way.

The form of Autism the kid has is a high functioning form of autism...meaning he wasn't all gorked out or even like "Rain Man". I highly doubt that the kid was "terrorizing" society. Some of you people need to stop ebing so melodramatic.

It's fairly simple the kid was out of control, had a weapon, the officer felt the kid posed a threat to his life or someone elses and reacted with what he had. I'm sure had the officer had a tazer he would have used it. It's sad the officer took the kids life and now the officer will have to live with that the rest of his life...justified or not it is still something he has to live with and deal with and it's not easy.

To say the kid needed to be put down because he had a mental is ridiculous and adds absolutly no credibility to your arguement. If anything it makes you sounds like an illogical idiot.

Was this kid a threat to society? If he was going after the police with a knife, what could he have done to kids or adults on the street. What would it take to set him off? I feel for the kids family and the kid himself, but it seems that if the parents had no control over him, who would stop him in time if he went after innocent people? As a young kid, i was hit in the head with a large rock, by a mentally disturbed kid, just for riding my bike past his house. Maybe this kid should have been medicated or put into a special home for people with mental disorders.

You are thinking logically. However, most do not. It seems the person at fault receives the sympathy while the innocent victim is forgotten. If this kid would have harmed another, the police would be at fault for allowing it. People would be saying that this would not have happened if this kid was receiving some kind of help.

As for placing this kid in some kind of special home or medicating him, the state can't afford that. The state is to busy pissing away money on waste. The state is allocating less money for mental health treatment because they are on the verge of bankruptcy. Funny thing is that our current president had a helping hand in this mess when he was an Illinois state senator. Now he is running the country like the state of Illinois.......BROKE!!!!!!!

Some would say why aren't the parents getting this kid help. The answer to that is they probably can't afford it. Which brings me back to this question.....Why the F$@@ are people bringing kids into this world when they can barely afford to provide for themselves??!!!

Since the word irresponsibility runs rampant in today's day and age, these incidents are the outcome. Don't worry though. Somebody is going to get paid on this incident and I bet you can guess who.

Maybe this whole discussion wouldn't be necessary and the kid would still be alive IF the PARENTS acted like PARENTS and got the kid some help instead of calling the police when THEY couldn't control him. BTW - the kid didn't just "threaten" the cops - he went after the officers with a knife. Not a butter knife like the "father" said. The kid wasn't shot twice in the head like the "father" said. So, why is it that only the "mother" filed suit against the police officers? Not a racial thing at all - seems more like a stupidity issue!

Oh, but the parents are black and they will make it a racial issue, because the cops were white. That way they'll hit the lottery on a settlement with the city.

As a hypothetical, if the kid was white and the cops were black, the media probably would have totally ignored this story.
