Just plant a few more money trees and we'll have it covered.

I can't believe that ANYONE would be asking for increased funding during these tough economic times.
It's not like our schools are teaching our children anything but how to feel good about themselves anyway.
Sorry... the public trough is TEMPORARILY CLOSED!

Education is the key to the future of our country. Yes, times are tough. However, we can not afford to fall behind in education. Money spent on education is a great investment in our future.

And yes, I live in Michigan. Our economy is horrible - why, because Michigan held on to the manufacturing base and did not properly plan for the changing world and educate our children to compete in a global economy.

Do the feces for brains in Annapolis have any clue how they would pay for this? Oh wait a minute; they don't have to come up with a revenue source, just look at Thornton. Another anchor around the necks of the Maryland taxpayers coming from your friends in Annapolis.

Now the whiners will complain that education is so important that we have to increase spending, for the children or course. The cesspool that is Baltimore proves that more money means nothing...

Stop giving money to CASA and give it to the colleges. Help our tax paying citizens first.

Maybe Senator Rosapea (however you spell his name) should chip in 100% of his generous salary and sell his house and property to help reach this little sum of millions of dollars. Are all politicians and do gooders just crazy, or is it me. Time to throw all of these bums (especially O'Malley and Busch) out of office.r

wait, i do not get it. There are 4 historically black colleges. What are the enrollment of them. If they are low, combine them to 2. Why can't we do that, just because they are historically black? When the catholic schools are low on enrollment what happens? They close and combine so why can't these 4 colleges do the same? This is just the typical scenario where you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink! You can't make them go to school, no matter how much money is donated.

Remember how Thornton bankrupted the State of Maryland? And now a "commission" recommends more money for higher education? Not a chance, not a dime. Maryland is still in a hole from the last educational handout. NEVER AGAIN!

What am I missing here? The mission of the "historically black colleges" is to take in students "not prepared for college work". What the hell does that mean? If these "students" are not prepared for college work then why are they going to college? Are the black colleges supposed to be prep schools for real colleges? Must they be kept open at the expense of what little money the taxpayers have left after OweMalley , Miller and Busch are done with them? This is utter madness! Don't know what else to call it. Politically correct madness. The French people stormed the Bastille for less transgressions then the taxpayers of Maryland put up with.

A couple of items in this article caught my eye.

1) "gives historically black colleges more money to support their mission of enrolling students who are not prepared to do college-level work"

To this I say its about time they admitted that the historically black colleges have become nothing more than glorified 4 year community colleges. Now that they have admitted it, why not just shut them down or convert them to real community colleges and dramatically reduce their costs.

2) "The state is a net exporter of college-bound students - especially its most talented ones"

To this one I say WHO CARES? I went to school out of my home state and would have gladly gone back if that's where the best job opportunties were. Why don't we save some money on state universities and attract businesses through good tax policy. With a strong business environment the state could easily be a net importer of skilled workers. I don't care where they get their education.

Daily Horoscope for January 7

Sagittarius

If you have any worries or problems today, a close colleague could have the answers you seek. Work will be satisfying, and anything to do with children should be very rewarding today. There could be friction with a relative, but it's nothing serious and things will sort themselves out in due course. Again, you must pay attention to your health, Saggitarius: skin infections are a strong possibility at the moment.
