Chicago citizens should prepare for a crackdown on cops that weekend as well. Let's make sure they don't run over any children, or beat women at bars.

They need to crack down in Cicero. It's like Beirut here on the 4th. The firecrackers and m80s are already "bursting in air" here and the cops are nowhere to be found.

Where's the media coverage of this travesty? There sure were plenty of outside reportage of Betty Loren Maltese. At least the town was livable back then. Now it's a cesspool, but that's o.k. It's called a "Vibrant" community now.

DUI roadblocks and arrests are great. But go sit in the courtrooms and watch what is going on. People plead guilty to DUI in exchange for having their statutory summary suspension thrown out means no interruption of driving privileges so they can go out and do it again. Only in Crook County. Maybe it's time for another Greylord investigation?

Look out for the illegals saying the cops were profiling! I personally think they should do a roadblock checking for kids in car seats (or restrained at all) since most (all) of the people in Hanover Park/Streamwood have no idea what a child seat or seat belts are for. And that goes double for insurance and a valid license. But they'll pull me over because I have a 'burnt out tail light'. Sure 'nuff.

What better way to boost revenue in a recession. DUI laws are written and enforced mainly to make money, and have little to do with removing dangerous drunks from the road.

Ever cruise up LSD on the 4th? It's an absolute free-for all. Cars stopped or parked in the middle of the road and the off ramps, drunk idiots running around all over the place and not a cop in sight.

Keep making Chicago proud.

Drunk drivers? On the afternoon of 7-4, please come to the alley near Cullom and Richmond Street. Each year, the alley is blocked and ILLEGAL fireworks are blown up in the alley, thrown into people's yards, and anyone that dares to challenge the homeowners (2 houses in particular on Cullom) wake up the next day to both their garages being blocked by cars the the owners refuse to move, or their garage is tagged with gang graffitti.

Cracking down on the DUIs is great but what about the booze- and dope-fueled gangster mayhem out there in the barrios and what used to be called the ghettos? Stray bullets and flashing blades everywhere but not a copper in sight. The bad guys rule the night as our society devolves into a nightmare of a Third World h@llhole. Goodbye, America, sorry to lose you.

Drunk drivers are the least of the worries for July 4th -- Last year people shot roman candles at cars, dogs and people in Rogers Park... when 911 was called the operator said, "Its July 4th, what do you expect us to do about it?" Thank you Chicago Police Department.

I hope all the Chicago cops concentrate their attention on the south and westside ganglands next weekend. It will keep them from beating and killing the tax payers on the north side.

Maybe it's worth the 10.25% sales tax we deal with here in the city not to have to deal with these yahoo suburban cops.

last time I seen this cop let a person who was drving drunk go. Why? Money was exchanged. Mayor Daley, Quinn and ALL chicago cops are alcoholic, corrupted close minded people that need to be beaten up until they no longer exist.

Gawd, nobody can have any fun anymore in this town. What a police state, of course the cops can go in the bar and beat up the staff. . .that is no problem.

Heck...come to Belmont and Washtenaw. We have area 3 right down the street at Belmont and Western and they do jack about the fireworks. Walking outside between the 2nd (yes..they start early in my neighborhood) and the wee hours of the 5th...there is so much smoke in the air it is like living in a war zone. DUI's are the money makers though...not busting citizens (illegal or not) for setting off fireworks which are also illegal.

Yeah, this stinks! Its an outrage!

Your wrong - now I'll get PROBATION if I beat the c r a p out of someone, especially small female bartenders! Those bartenders can be pretty threatening.

Whats that about!? Probation is tough. Where is the justice? Stupid laws!

Which cities or suburbs had cops busted for writing false DUI's? The cops won awards from MADD for the most DUI's. DUI's have become money making machines for the municipalities.

The answers are Chicago and ......

I see they are cherry picking the stats to include those who are not legally impaired. Pretty sleazy.

The headline should be the 65% of the accidents are caused by sober drivers.
