The paper is legitimate. Contact the district office if you want, but there will be a meeting to talk about a new choice that district #187 hopes to put in the Corpus Christi school building they bought from the church. They also have some room to expand the campus.

Why does Cahokia need a new school when the town has a declining population.
Are we going to bus in more and more students from surounding towns so the people in Cahokia can pay for their education.

is there any info in the newspaper about this or can someone copy what the paper had to say.
I have always said it was stupid for the Belleville Diocese to close St Catherine since they had done a bunch of upgrades(AC in every room, all new energy saving lighting, Computer Room, just to name a few)to the school building && the school had more kids the Holy Family had. St Catherine's went so far as to add an extra building to house 3 classrooms since the school had that many kids in it. Then when they closed St Catherine, Holy Family had to ask the KC for $80,000 to repair their building. Sounds like someone truly didn't want St Catherine to be a school anymore.
It has always been that way. St. Catherines was considered a stepchild to Holy Family.

What school does your child attend? What did the letter say??? Did it say the name of the school, and what grades would go there?

This is probably totally untrue like a lot of the comments on here.
When you see it in the paper or on the news then I might believe it

That's because we were "On the other side of the tracks" I seen that same BS when my child went there back in the 90's. I would of thought by then that crap would of stopped by then. But it never did & I doubt it never will. What most people don't realize is the Paster who was in charge of Holy Family School when it first opened was the one who thought that Cahokia should have 2 Catholic Schools & Churches.
I hear you. Holy Family considered themselves the "upper crust",as if you have such a thing in Cahokia. They had a gym, we did not. So what.

Don't stop saying what you feel. My children went to school there also at St. Catherines.
You have the right to be pissed. We paid the taxes for public schools plus what we spent trying to give our kids a better education than what they offered at the public schools.

Corpus Christi has 70 students enrolled currently. They are taking applications for the upcoming year.
Father Mark was sent to St Catherines to close the school and church. Which he accomplish both. When both schools combined alot of families pulled their kids out and left Cahokia .

Don't most schools, if not all schools hve gyms? Would they have had to buid a nw gym if they chose St Catherines over Holy Family? Most kids are inactive enough these days without a gym to get some exercise...

Wans't it just in the news that they were going to cut some teachers because of financial problems ? How are they going to pay for this ?- Probably just another tax increase for the citizens .

St Catherines never had a gym all the years they were open and it was never a problem. The kids found things to do on the playground and stayed in the classrooms and played games when it was bad weather. I think they decided to go with Holy Family because they had a cafateria, a gym and it was newer and because of the log church being over 300 years.

If I'm not mistaken, district 187 forwards to Fort Bowman Academy 1.8 million dollars per year. If the district had their own magnet school (St. Catherine) they could force the closure of Ft. Bowman, and bring all kids under their district leadership. Good or bad I don't know, but this is the reasoning behind the new school. It is true and will happen. I believe the district already owns the land where the soccer field now sits. Where they will get the money to purchase and hire the new staff, I haven't the slightest idea. Do we truly need this I don't know. Will we have a say ------ NO Also don't forget, we also will need a new 50 to 75 million dollar high school real soon. We must have a lot more money in this community than I ever thought.

Property taxes will double need to justify the increase. New schools for a dying town what a great investment. Look at the other things that St Clair county spends money Mid America Airport!
