I remember when Parks College has their annual Open House Celebration! It was beautiful and everyone would come together to see the campus and enjoy BBQ. I learned so much from those experiences.

Ice Skating and the Cahokia Swimming Pool.Alot of good times there.Jerry,There were alot of good times in Cahokia,if you lived there when you were a kid in the 60s and 70s.I`m trying to get the harsh and bitter feelings to chill for the moment. But I don`t blame you for your remark.Cahokia has seen better days.

I can remember growing up in Parklane Manor, walking that subdivision all day long and knowing almost ever single person in the subdivision. Grandma's were the school bus drivers, friends were everywhere, it was a great time. Mom's and Dad's didn't have to be afraid to let us run around town it was a safe place then.

I remember I got my "Chatty Cathy" doll from the old Tomboy's for Christmas. I remember being able to go throughout St. Joe's subdivision with a pillow case on Halloween, filling it up with candy, then going home to empty it and then go over to St. John's subdivision and walking around. Just us kids, never needed adults with us. I remember the homecoming picnics and all the parades. Great times. And I remember going over to Parks College to flirt with all the boys there(LOL). And, going up to the bluffs to "Party" and "make out". Fun times for all.

We had Sock Hops, Teen Town, CYO and we could walk to and from without a problem back in the 60's. And we walked on the shoulders or the side of the street. NOT right down the middle taunting drivers like they do now.

We used to save our lunch money and after school we would all walk to Pop-n-Pizza and we could get the biggest slice of pizza Ever for $1.00 and they also had Dr.Slice fountain soda. yummy

When I look back on it that was some hard work for the little money you got. You had to be out in the weather no matter how hot or cold it was and riding that bike in the snow wasn't fun.:) The kids these days wouldn't even think about doing that. Although they would probably get robbed on collection day.

Crazy but Fun

I remember when the neighborhood kids followed "the smoke man" on our bikes -- the mosquito spray was thicker than fog and we loved it! Talk about dangerous?!! We couldn't see two feet in front of our faces! But, the parents back then knew to be extra careful when the smoke man was around and I never heard of anyone getting hurt.

I helped this one boy on his paper route when I was a kid and the papers ended up in a real mess.He said These go to the people on West Adams I threw the papers to the people on East Adams. It was not funny at the time, but I can laugh about it now.
