Shifting from the economy to education, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney was proposing a voucher-style system that could significantly alter the public school system and revive the debate over school choice.
Romney, who has been reluctant to stray far from the economic issues at the core of the presidential campaign, was outlining the proposal during a speech Wednesday at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. In a sop to the Libertarians, who want to abolish public schools entirely, Romeny has proposed what amounts to privitization. Story for the AP: "A Romney aide who previewed the speech for reporters said the candidate would let low-income and disabled students use federal funding to attend public schools, public charter schools and, in some cases, private schools. Federal funds could also be applied to tutors or digital courses. The plan is line with GOP reforms aimed at giving students more educational choices. But it's unclear how schools in areas that depend on the federal funding would fare." ANSWER: Places like Trigg County would get the shaft. For some reason, Topix omitted the quotation marks on the first two paragraphs above.

Do you think I really care? And what if I turn out NOT to be the person that you think I am? There are at least 5 people from Trigg County who live in Riley County, KS. One of them has some rather mysterious connections in strange places. Now, just suppose you plaster his name on Topix along with a bunch of your hate mongering, he gets ticked off, makes a call to some folks he knows, and, walah, he knows who you are? |

More on Romney's back-door plan toward the ultimate Libertarian goal of doing away with public education:

This is quoted straight from the platform of the Libertarian Party of Kentucky:
"Education Today: Given the state of education, both in the Nation, and specifically in Kentucky, The Libertarian Party of Kentucky calls for a voucher system, to open the school systems to the free market. This will quickly improve the quality of education in the state of Kentucky. Tomorrow: In the long-term, libertarians call for the complete separation of school and state, which means the repeal of school compulsory-attendance laws and school taxes –- that is, the complete end of all governmental involvement in education. This would mean a completely free market in education, in which consumers decide the best educational vehicles for their children and entrepreneurs (both for-profit and charitable) are meeting the demands of the consumers. Government education, especially in Kentucky, has destroyed the education for the current generation." First, think this through. What would this really mean for most kids if it came to pass. Second, tell me that the Libertarians have not hijacked the Republican Party and are using it as their Trojan Horse. |

If Gov. Rommey gets in all of Trigg County school children can kiss their education to the wind, he is only after the voucher system to get more money for people like his son who owns a school, that is one man who is only interested in making money and it doesn't matter who gets hurt even if its the innocent kids of this county.

The ideology behind the Libertarian crusade to privitize education goes a lot deeper than just plain old fashioned greed. Libertarians believe in dog-eat-dog, all-to-the-strongest Social Darwinism. They view tax funded education as the no. 1 form of socialism, because it educates the children of the poor at the expense of the wealthy, and enables them to rise to a standard of living that otherwise they would be unable to attain. Romney himself is not a Libertarian, but he is having to play to them because of the power that the Tea Party, which is Libertarian when it comes to economics and what they think the social structure should be. |

United States |
What do you think Oblablablama's doing? Look at the teacher cuts at TCHS and all over the state.
|
If by "Oblablablama" you mean President Barack Obama, this morning (Saturday, 9 June 2012) he urged congressional action to help cash-strapped local governments fund teacher positions. |

He 'Urged.' Really? That's the best the president of the united states can do. Urge? That's called politics. Put your money where your mouth is, the old saying goes. The rest is just bla bla bla. |
|
Actually all the President of the United States can do is "urge." Read the Constitution. All money bills must originate in the Congress and be passed by it. Even the budget that the president presents to Congress is just a formal request. Even if the president's party has a simple majority, 50% plus 1, in both houses of Congress, he cannot get a budget item passed unless he gets support from the other party in the Senate. That is because of procedural rules in the Senate that require a super majority to end a filibuster and bring a bill to a vote. The way it stands right now, a small group of Tea Party senators can put the brakes on everything. |

More of the Libertarian-Christian Right's efforts to destroy public education.

I hope you stay in KS. Or anywhere but Trigg County. I'll bet my butt you aren't from Trigg County. |
|
You would lose your butt. I was born and raised in Trigg County, graduated from TCHS, and I am sitting in the John L. Street Library right now. |
|
|
I bet you got harassed in school!
|
|
Then why do you have a foreign address? |
|
The address that appears on Topix is the location of the server that you are going through, not your physical location. The server for the John L. Street Library's internet service is in Dagsboro, DE, or somewhere, not in Cadiz. When I am in Kansas it says Manhattan, KS, because the local internet provider there has their own server right there in Manhattan. |
