I would like to address the authors of the recent Lewiston City Newsletter.
Since some of the people that have moved into Lewiston have misunderstandings about what the zoning laws are that are currently in effect in Lewiston, perhaps the city council would be better serving the people of Lewiston by sending them a welcome letter and making sure that it is brought to their attention. Instead you choose to issue them citations unjustly, and drag them to court. In the Newsletter, you mentioned Brigham Young. Brigham Young may have been an advocate of planned communities, and in designing a community to fit the needs of its citizens. I have read that he designed property lots with sufficient size so that the owners could have space to be self sufficient. I am sure that the rights of the property owner were respected, and that the citizens of his community were not issued citations and dragged through a sham of a city court and council for daring to make use of their property as they saw fit. I do not think that you should be comparing yourself to a Prophet to justify your actions. We are not under some religious or moral obligation to fall in line behind you, and accept your decisionswithout question, and If the unpaid members of our city councilwho serve so self sacrificingly do not like to be criticized, then maybe they should find a new pastime. In a previous newsletter, a survey went around in which we were asked to suggest new ways to raise funds for some city projects. Perhaps if our city councils members have nothing better to do, maybe they could drive around each street and see who they can find not complying with any of the ordinances, issue them a citation, have them appear in court, where Evan Hall can fine them. It might not take very long for you to get the money. Then you would not have to raise city taxes again. You might want to tell the people that you fine that an appeal to city council will get them no where, as the council is nothing more than a good old boys club, and they will can anticipate nothing but political brownnosers and hypocrisy. In the last part of the city letter, you expressed appreciation for John Hester, and his hard work. At least you got that part right. I too want to thank him, he is a great guy, and does really care about the people, and my husband and I are grateful to him for his efforts in our behalf. Kristyn VanDyke Thank you for all that you have done, I really appreciate your efforts on our behalf, you are a great guy, and you are doing a great job! Kristyn VanDyke |
