We "hired" a logger out of Lonoke to clean up some storm damaged trees after the straight line winds in June. He was supposed to do work for our neighbor too. All he did was cut good trees, left the storm damage and one big mess behind! He did the same thing to a third property owner on our road. We have reason to believe he is still soliciting other neighbors in the Mountain Springs area off Hwy. 5. He is a con man!

WHAT WAS HIS NAME? WHAT DID HE DRIVE? I personally know 2 loggers from the Carlisle/Lonoke area who are both excellent workers and this post will give them ALL a bad name. The economy is bad, so let's not give the good workers a bad name too.

We thought this guy would be good too as we received his name from the Forestry Commission. With this post, however, all I am saying is if a logger solicits you about cutting your trees, make sure you do your due diligence in getting the agreement in writing, mark the trees he is allowed to take and check references which is what we knew we should have done on the front end and did not. Ask if he has worked for any other property owners in the area and, if so, ask to contact them. If he has done a good job for your neighbors, he should have no problem with you contacting them. If he won't provide this information, consider it a red flag that he has left people in the lurch and walk away!!

I never would have thought about "Hiring" anyone in the first place. All my big storm damage was done free. I cut all the big logs up into manageable pieces, and put an ad on Craigslist (free) for "Free Firewood". I had so many messages that i was able to be choosey about who comes out to my house. A nice guy from the airbase came out with his truck and i helped him load all the logs he could take. You might decide to try this next time.

27 acres worth of damage was just a little much for one disabled man and one woman to handle with a chainsaw. And we didn't pay the guy. In fact, he promised to show us the receipts showing how much he sold the trees for and pay us a percentage. We never saw one receipt. Will try the free firewood thing on Craigslist.

Ok, i didn't know you meant 27 acres! LoL! Yeah , if you aren't worried about making a profit , and or having to pay , try Craigslist next time. It meant more to me to find someone to give my wood to , than to try and sell it. You just have to be careful - don't put your address on a craigslist posting,..the posting is anonymous anyway, craigslist is the "go between" until a person(s) responds to you , then you'll see their email address first.

I posted the firewood on Craigslist and am already getting lots of responses. Any advice on picking and choosing who allow to come onto my property to cut? Don't want thugs coming out here looking for things to steal...not that we have anything worth taking. ;-)

Who was the logger than left the bad taste in your mouth about loggers? Do you have a name or a description of the vehicle/equipment he was using? I notice someone else asked you that question early in the post and you danced around the answer. Any names? Company name? Description of the vehicle? Any description is helpful to keep that person from striking another innocent victim.

I don't think he could sue me for this because it is a true and accurate portrayal of my experience with him. However, I am not taking that chance. That is the reason I did not explicitly state his name.

Asked for a description of the vehicles/equipment as well.
Well thanks for giving all of us in the Lonoke/Cabot/Carlisle area a bad name. Not all of us are thiefs and we all have to make a living. I understand your having to watch what you say, but you don't realize that you have now hurt us all and given us all a bad reputation.

I totally understand fully why she won't put a name here OR any vehicle description. If the person(s) hasn't been officially caught and charged, they could file a suit against her. Worse yet , if they are the type of people who would do this , just think what kind of retaliation they would act upon her - knowing exactly where she lives. I wouldn't worry about your reputation since it's clear that it wasn't you. If you're worried , you can post your name here though...

NOT TRUE IF HER ACCUSATION ARE TOTALLY HONEST & TRUE, BUT WHATEVER. I would not get on here and say "don't hire a car mechanic from Lonoke/Cabot/Carlisle area because one did a bad job, then not give a clue as to clear the ones that did not do the bad job." A description of hte vehicle is not slander. But thanks for your opinion anyway. Maybe this will make people think before they post negative stuff without back-up. How would you feel if this was how you supported your family and now someone has given your entire profession a bad name?

Come on now , let's be reasonable. Are we really arguing over syntax? She said "A logger", i don't see that as a detriment to the woodcutting profession, worldwide nor local.

Done with this. You obviously don't feed & provide for your family with this profession. I do. Times are hard enough as it is without someone posting negative stuff in general about my profession. Thanks for your opinion. Obviously we don't view our survival skills the same way. Just know that NOT ALL LOGGERS in this area are bad. And I am mostly trying to figure out who the logger is so that I don't send work their way and then someone think that I referred a loser! Think about it from my view as someone in the profession. I mean come on, I have to watch my back too.

LOGGER, you make a valid point. I would not want someone to say that all pilots are drunks just because a few commercial pilots got caught drinking and flying. Punish those few, not the community as a whole. I do understand.

OMG Logger get over it. I don't think anyone with a brain would read Lady J's post and think all loggers in that area are bad. If YOU do your job properly and have good refrences then what do you have to worry about? I've heard about teachers molesting kids but I don't think all teachers are molesters. Geesh!!!

Daily Horoscope for December 26

Gemini

Mercury will backtrack through your finances over the next few weeks, which isn't a very seasonal thought if you're already well aware that you've overspent this month. Be prepared to do some juggling or to seek expert advice if you're worried about how you're going to cope. You may be kept busy handling inheritance, tax or insurance matters, preparing investment analysis, and allocating funds for the repayment or collection of debts.
