Crosswalk fatality nets max sentence

13 years is not a lot of time to get when you have claimed the life of an innocent man & change the life of an innocent family. I think the justice system is ridiculous. I just hope Larry Dalhaus does not get out in a few years and do it again. Wonder if those stiffest penalties possible (13 years) would have flown had it been a local political person's husband or wife that had been killed? Thank you to everyone who had been praying for Becky & the kids.

I dunno. I've never heard of someone causing a traffic accident that killed someone get 13 years. I've never seen a first time DUI offender that killed someone get 13 years. The law doesn't allow for knowing victims, ..it's pretty linear to me. Sure , people that knew the family always want a stiffer sentence, but by legal and precedent standards, dude got a longer sentence than most, considering the act wasn't premeditated to specifically take out the victims. What Dalhaus did was utterly stupid, and the sentence will surely render him thinking about his actions for the rest of his life. He will never just be able to shrug this off and walk away.

The person that got 13 yrs seems a bit excessive. Was there any other charges against him for any other crimes? Is this a guy that really messed up one time or is this a person that has committed any other offense but just paid fines and walked away. Just curious if he had a history of crimminal activity. It happens. Sometimes it's strange what people can do before something bust them out. Hope the best for all involved.

There was a lot involved. He killed an innocent man and critically injured his wife. First off, he was driving a new unlicensed motorcycle with no insurance. The speed limit is 25 mph in the area. It was DURING a high school football game where the speed limit should be strictly imposed and people should use common sense to be extra cautious. The crosswalk is directly in front of the football field between the field and the school campus parking lot, so it happened "on" the high school campus. There were cars stopped at the crosswalk and he went around them at nearly 70 mph and hit the man and his wife in the crosswalk that the cars were stopped waiting for the couple to cross the street. The motorcycle driver was legally drunk when it all happened. He was new to the town and was going through a divorce. RUMOR HAS IT that he was an avid partier and that was part of the reason for his divorce, but that is only rumor. Many, many other sources also state (heresay only) that they had been passed by this man on this motorcycle on this same stretch of road several times in the past weeks. you ppl are foolish with your judgin of a man serving a punishment for crimes he committed..sure he messed up there and i by no means condone his actions..but i assure you, that along with myself, we are all guilty..i knew larry dalhaus in rl..i spent many many days of my life, hangin out with him..i know the type of man he was, and i can tell you this..it couldve been any one of us on that bike that night..he was a good man, and made a mistake..keep your opinions to yourselves from now on..go about your lives living your lives..learn from the mistakes of others and yourselves..and when this situation or any other god forbid happens again..pray for all parties involved..we all need help..

JUDGING? So who forced Larry to drive so fast after sitting at the bar after a bad day of work and drining and partying with people he did not even know until they walked into the bar, then riding a new motorcycle from Southwest Little Rock to Austin, AR, in the rain, at excessive speeds, in a school zone, during a school function, passing rows of cars who were obviously stopped for a reason...? The thing, personal friend, is that he has no excuse for what he did which resulted in killing one of my best friends. What if Larry had killed a 15 year old instead of a grown man with a family? Would that have made it better? What if he had been killed himself or one of his best friends or YOU? And anything you say can't excuse Larry for lieing in court about how much he had to drink or what he had done prior to the accident. Get all the facts before you start telling people to keep their opinions to themselves. Don't read this post if you don't want to hear facts that you may or may not already know. Nothing can bring Jeff back. Nothing can give Becky her legs back or her life as she knew it before Sept 12, 2008. Nothing can change what Larry did that night. And the fact remains that it was not any of us that this happened too, guilty of it ourselves or not, it was Jeff, Becky and Larry who it physically happened to and it has affected a lot of us emotionally. So until you have to deal with a loss such as this one every day, let us deal with it in the way that helps us. I pray for Larry every day too, but the fact remains that it did happen the way that it happened and nothing can change that fact.
