My wife and I have gone to Winco off of Lone Tree Way for the last 3-4 major food purchases. We refuse to go anymore after we found weavils and maggots in the cereals and in the ramen.

We even talked to an employee of the store who has gone through the same thing!!!

How hard is it to keep your place clean from these things??? My wife and I will go back to Lucky's or Raley's. We are tired of playing the lottery when we open either the generic malt o meal cereals (btw, they paid us 5 dollars for their cereal) OR even brand name Lucky Charms.

Winco needs to do a SOUND quality check and health inspection and assure that they get rid of this problem...has anyone else had this issue as well and either overlooked it or ignored it???

James, I think they buy old or less quality stock which is how they can keep their prices low. A lot of that generic food comes from the same companies that make your lucky charms. It's just a batch of lucky charms that didn't meet with industry standards over at the mill. if the ovens weren't cooking the product right or an ingredient wasn't added properly, they sell it to places like Winco and Sams Club to sell as their own off brand. These things could have been placed in an area that was damp and full of flies which is how the maggots got into the food.

if it were one time, that would be something...

we have gone there and it has happened on SEVERAL incidents..we can't even buy cereal there anymore.

but they are not alone..we went to the Military commissary in Fairfield a few weeks ago and IT HAD THEM TOO..so now I am questioning ALL cereals..

I say just be on the lookout..I think few people will give this the attention it deserves and will eat them without even saying anything..

I know there are certain quotas or standards that must be met, but when it comes to weevils or maggots, that number MUST be ZERO!

It makes me want to go to the company CEO and feed them their own cereal for a week and see how long they last...it is repulsive.

We had the same thing happen to us. We purchased Oatmeal that was filled with maggots. Unfortunately, we ended up with moths before I realized our unopened oatmeal had a place where the maggots chewed through the container and had become moths. I was totally grossed out!!! It is real hard to get rid of them!!!

I really enjoy when people like yourselves get online and start typing reports on a store you have never even been inside of... "Fed Up With Winco" from Logan, IL. you make me laugh. There are no wincos anywhere near your state. Washington Idaho Nevada California Oregon (winco). Half of the posts are from people from other companies attempting to scare the public. I know personally that winco sells so much product that most things dont even sit on the shelf for a day. selling 6-7 semi truck loads a day doesnt leave much time for things to sit on the shelves. Why dont you go complain to the less fortunate people that can actually buy the amount of food they need due to Wincos ability to keep prices down. No frills is how the prices stay down.. not buying almost out of date products for resale. Get real and grow up.

1) I AM in that group of less fortunates...and we STILL do not appreciate eating bugs and weavils or maggots or whatever the hell is in the cereal...

2) maybe it doesn't sit around in WA...but there is no guarantee of that here in Cali...even one of the employees at the winco here in norcal told us that she had a similar problem..

I came upon this site when I was looking to get directions to the brentwood ca store. I only shopped at the pittsburg store a couple of times and both of those times I was very satisfied with the items (meat, frozen foods, juices, snack foods) i purchased and the prices. i know that our government allows a percentage of vermin even in what's supposed to be "grade a" foodstuffs which are sold at brand name stores, but i feel very certain that the level of infestation that's being alleged here would not be acceptable by any government standard. if, in fact, you are experiencing that level, you should be calling your local health department who should be able to direct you to the federal office you should contact to look into this. i'd also call a tv news station--i'm sure that would get an immediate response! just because people can't afford to spend almost $2 f*cking dollars on a single peach (RALEY'S!!!) doesn't mean we have to eat garbage! i have a feeling that claims are somewhat exaggerated here, but in any case this should not be an ongoing problem. i would also suggest people shop at TRADER JOE'S because they have extremely high quality foods and surprisingly reasonable pricing. i often spent far less there than at SAFEWAY, LUCKY'S and RALEY'S.

I don't know why my previous comments says I'm in Berkeley. Anyway, I just want to make sure that people easily see this: TRADER JOE'S HAS EXTREMELY HIGH QUALITY PRODUCTS AND VERY REASONABLE PRICES. SAFEWAY, LUCKY'S and RALEY'S ALL SUCK WITH A CAPITAL S!

You people are crazy! I shop @ WinCo several times a month and buy 4-5 boxes of cereal every trip(3 teenage kids). I have never had a single issue with food quality.

As a mater of fact, I find that their expiration dates on dairy products are the best around. this has to be simply because they are moving throught the inventory so quickly.

If you are continually having problems - maybe you should clean out your cupboards at home!

WinCo knows what they are. They sell inexpensive groceries - plain and simple! They do not try to cater to the "hype" that adds costs to my grocery bill. They save me a fortune and I appreciate their low prices.

I find the food from Winco fresher. I got moldy pizza crust from the Oakley Raleys and at Luckys you pay high prices and have to scan your own groceries. I believe most of the smears about Winco come from UNION bullies.
Don't believe negative about Winco. The boxed cereals are also in plastic bags. Bugs can't get through the plastic.

I shop at winco in Brentwood Ca. I really like the
store but out of the blue I started seeing alot of moths in my kitchen never had this problem before. Went through all my boxed stuff checked it & found some moths in the cereal boxes so now I
ziplock all my cerael.I Thought the problem was gone but still more moths, finaly found the PROBLEM the pests were coming from some sunflower seeds that came from the large bins that you weigh yourself. To me this could be the WHOLE PROBLEM HERE, these bins are open to pests, so of course the bugs would find their way to the boxed foods in the store. WINCO DOES NEED TO ADDRESS THIS PROBLEM. But people your cabnets need to be checked and cleaned, to take care of this problem at home too.If you don't the problem wont go away.

Winco Foods here is amoung the most upstanding companies in the area. I have never had any problem with anything anyone talks about on here. This is low that the union Mafia in California has to go to these depths. Winco Foods has a huge warehouse in Woodburn, Oregon that goes through the same companies other stores go through, and they go through more product so the quality should be better. Each store also has a quality control position dedicated just to keeping dates checked and product fresh. Winco should sue you for slander for your herendous accusations.

WINCO should fix its problems so that they do not have to deal with these accusations and what is "horrendous" is how you spell that word.

Winco may be a fine company. I am not saying that they are anything less, in fact BECAUSE of the fact that they ARE such a decent company gives me reason to believe that they should recognize free speech when they see it and ACT accordingly. DO not shoot the messenger, fix the problem so that you can stop the problem AND shut up the critics...till then, you will always have to recognize that word of mouth advertising works in both directions...good AND BAD!

I shop at Winco every week ever since it opened. I have never had a problem. The problem is that people have "problems" themselves and just like to complain. Don't shop there if you don't like it. There are plenty of people who do like it.

Daily Horoscope for December 23

Libra

Someone is shooting from the hip today, making them irascible and all too liable to fly off the handle. Be very wary about provoking them into further outbursts, particularly where the vexed topics of money and sex are concerned. If you're trying to sort out a financial problem you will also be prone to losing your rag and banging your fist on the table. But will that help?
