<quoted text>No Lenny I am not one of those people who go 15 mph...but I also do not speed. So when I see you sitting in a totalled car at one of those intersections. I'll just drive right on by and wave.....How does that sound. Have you even seen these intersections I am talking about. Cause if you haven't then you should really shut your mouth.
Read again, 15 mph below the speed limit. Knock on wood, I never had an at fault accident in 15 years of driving. OTOH, I once dated somebody who almost always drove at or below the speed limit, and had 4 accidents in 5 years, 3 of which were her fault. I would much rather deal with speeders than oblivious drivers anyday.

If this is PennDOT's "new conceptual design model" for urban and suburban bypasses, what will 202, the Trexlertown-Kutztown and Kutztown-Reading 202 stretches, and the Lancaster County 23 routes look like?

Who decided that Lehigh, Northampton, and Berks counties should never have regular stretches of expressway wider than two lanes per direction? Could somebody tell me that? Or does PennDOT have a plan to put birth control pills in the water to limit regional population growth? Birth control won't work on people coming to the Lehigh Valley to enjoy a better life. You can bet on it - so plan for it.

True, the traffic light east of Kutztown is a major backlog creator. The land is there now for the corridor to connect the bypasses. In a few years the megaginormousbigboxstores will be built and there won't be any options.

Why do we need to help congested traffic flow? Because it's prettier that way? Think a little. Also, I am not advocating speeding, just raising the speed limit.

I firmly believe that if we would require a higher degree of competence before we give out a driver's license it would result in a far more drastic reduction in the number and severity of accidents than would any reduction in the speed limit .

The whole point is to save lives. Almost 2/3 of the fatal traffic crashes involve speeding or aggressive driving. So if people slow down lives can be saved or at least crash can be reduced.
To me it doesnt matter if you agree with police being out there, just know why they are. EVERYDAY PEOPLE ARE INJURED OR KILLED IN ROADWAY CRASHES CAUSED BY SPEEDING. The police are out there to slow people down to stop these tragedies.
Oh Boo Hoo Hoo your commute took an extra two minutes, well thats the price you have to pay to avoid more highway deaths.
If you think ridiculas money makers, then you are WRONG and you need to pull your head out of your...
I seriously doubt it costs $100+ to write and process a citation. Most people don't even bother going to court, so I suspect they're just banking on people mailing in the citation stubs.

There's a difference between going a legal speed and a safe speed. Generally, if you're going at an unsafe speed, you're also at an illegal speed. But I'd contend that you can be going at an illegal speed without being unsafe. If most accidents are caused by unsafe speeds, that doesn't necessarily mean that they would've had to go all the way down to legal speeds to be safe. Also, most drivers speed. You should take that into account too when you say that most accidents involve speeders.

If these speed limits and speeding tickets are all about safety, then why are cops so eager to break the speed limits themselves? If they thought it was so unsafe, wouldn't they be staying within the speed limits unless they absolutely had to go faster?

The bypass has done wonders in alleviating congestion, but Hamilton at brookside can still be a bit congested. There is a very simple reason for this... some people are avoiding the bypass and sticking with the familiar Hamilton blvd. If you have to go to millcreek and beyond, take the freaking bypass.

I really haven't even driven on Hamilton Blvd. since the bypass opens. Most times I am headed to Walmart or Redner's or somewhere out that direction, and there is no need to loop back to take the Blvd.

Even though the speed limit is only 45, the Bypass is still amazing.

And, those new signs sound really great. I just said to my mom the other day, that they should have signs like that. Like Route 13 through Delaware and Maryland does is Salisbury. Things like "Mill Creek Road / NEXT SIGNAL" would be really helpful.

To all you Andretti's, Schumacher's and Gordon's out there, how about just slowing the *&@% down?!
You're not travelling on the Autobahn, with dozens of miles between destination points.
45-50 mph is a perfectly 'quick' and safe speed for the Bypass, especially with intersections not too far apart.
How much time do you think you really save on a 5 mile stretch of road going 10 mph faster? Is it worth the margin of safety that is compromised?
Also, someone makes a good point about having to deal with +70 mph semi's sharing the same road. No thanks!
If ya gotta prove to yourself how good a driver you are, look into auto-crossing or some kind of track-day event up at Pocono.

Oh, and the Berks-Lehigh Police are fairly active out there enforcing the posted Speed Limit. I hope they nail your sorry azz, give you a nice fat ticket or two, and then may your insurance rates go up. Hope it's all worth the extra few minutes you've 'saved'!

You for sure must be joking the semi's are not the only ones going 70+ I travel 78 everyday and see countless numbers of cars passing the 70+ mph trucks .REMEMBER THIS there are FAR MORE CARS causing HAVOC on the road then trucks JUST LOOK AT 22 in between cedar crest and airport rd 95% are LUNATICS in CARS!!!! The trucks only seem to get the bad rap cause they stick out like sore thumbs only due to their size.. Once again we find a way to throw trucks under the bus If I seem to recall it's the people in the "CARS" WHINING about the speed limit on the bypass Do any of you realize even if they did raise the speed limit on there to 55mph under Ideal circumstances you would only be there 10 mins early or you could quite possibly be there the same time due to the fact you'll be getting to the next RED LIGHT to sit and wait causing delay.. So there goes your 10mph faster right out the window.. If your that worried about 10 mins maybe you need to leave 10 mins EARLIER or take a look at your hectic lifestyle and SLOW DOWN take the time and enjoy the ride/view for a change...

Oh Brother,

Don't fret - we're on the same page.

While both cars and trucks are speeding unnecessarily on the bypass, the trucks, given there size, longer stopping distances, etc., simply increase the risk of mayhem.

Respectfully yours,

I believe that the poor traffic patterns is much more of an issue than the speed limit. Heading north on Hamilton at Kressler road, just past the traffic light, the road makes a very odd curve. The lines are poorly painted (they don't even come to the intersection) and there's no lighting. Then once you past that little adventure, you get to deal with all of the northbound 222 traffic trying to merge in order to enter I-78 East. They only have a very short distance to accomplish it.

Agreed.

The eastern end of this road is a mess. It's very confusing the first 50 or 60 times you take it/. I can only imagine how many fender benders will occur there over the next five years as folks fly across a few lanes, trying to get to exits.

I don't take the bypass, I drive back and forth to Kutztown everyday, It's actually quicker now to stay on Hamilton Blvd. and do the speed limit you'll get most traffic lights green from 100 to Kressler Rd. Try that on the bypass you hit every light Red.
