"Picking up on another oft-cited feature of the bypass, Mona DallaZanna of Upper Milford Township noted that she had trouble making out the road-name signs --''And yes, I was driving 45 mph,'' she wrote, citing the posted speed limit on a road designed for 60 mph traffic, and upon which even the Warrior's measly four-cylinder Honda seems intent on going 65"
"With only a low-octane engine at his command, the white-haired Warrior's no speed demon, folks. But it seems a waste to design a modern roadway for 60 mph traffic only to leave the parking brake partly applied, dragging the limit to a sluggish 45"

Yeah sure she's driving 45 most likely she was on the phone or putting on her makeup Aside from people being blind.. Maybe you people who find it difficult to "CONTROL" your vehicles should turn in your license or get your car fixed since it's such a handful to drive ..

They won't raise the speed limit on that road because it generates alot of new revenue .. Besides why raise the limit when it's only going to be dropped further when all the new stores are finally completed on this "McAurther rd II project" Deal with it people or don't use it this project has been a nightmare from the start along with all the political BS that went along with it ..

Nobody drives 45 mph on that road. That is a ridiculous speed limit. The best cruising speed is 60, which is both practical and safe for that "bypass."
Advanced signs should have been placed on the road from the beginning. It is disturbing that our esteemed PennDot didn't think of that before people started complaining.
... he's perfectly comfortable with 45 mph, citing among other factors the relatively short distances between intersections.
And who exactly designed into the bypass those short distances? Who?

HINT: It wasn't the taxpayers who drive on, and use, the new bypass.

Basically, PennDOT is admitting they (once again) totally screwed up, and it is now the taxpayers who have to suffer for PennDOT's downright professional incompentance.

With those huge intersections traffic cannot go 65 miles per hour. They don't stop for yellow and by the time they get through the light is green...I predict many people getting killed in those intersections. You idiots need to slow the he(( down.

The design was agreed upon jointly by the federal, state, county and municipal governments.

Let's face it. If they post the official speed limit at 60, maniacs like you will go 70-75. I don't know about you, but I do not want tractor trailers coming up behind me while I am at a red light at one of the intersections going 75 - if they can't stop and hit me I am dead.

So Mary, you have NEVER broken a speed limit in your life? It's not a good idea to expose yourself as a hypocrite. You are probably one of those people who sit in the passing lane driving 15mph below the speed limit. Leave speed enforcement up to the police.

From Grange to to I-78 should be 45 mph due to the lights. West of grange should be 55 mph.
Wait till the snow really sets in and the cars are speeding over the 45 mph. When they are travelng toward A-town and coem over that little bridge before Kressler and have to hit the brakes. Alot of crashes are going to happen.
There is also going to be alot of crashes from people sliding across that center median. If the speed limit was 55 Im sure PENNDOT would have to put a barrier up then in the center median b/c it is not wide enough.
Lets do one step at a time. There is enough crashes from the stupid people making left turns in front of other people at the intersections. An increase in the speed limit will only make it worse now.

I don't remember making the changes requested at the meetings. Are you sure PennDOT made them all?

I remember it was more like PennDOT saying... "This is it"... "Trust us, we are the experts"... "Thanks, but no thanks"... "We'll get back to you".

45 speed limit is just dumb. the speed limit on the road this was supposed to replace is also 45. Traffic is still congested at times(though no where near as bad as before) on hamilton because of the light at brookside road. If you dont give people the advantage of a higher speed, they will not drive outof their way to use the bypass because it does not make sense! I agree that the design is reciculous. Why there isnt an overpass at mill creek and krocks is anybody's guess. Why Krocks road was moved i have no idea. Some politician probably owned the land there and made out big time! There was no reason to move the intersection unless they wanted to build an overpass and needed more room. But it's still better than it was. Just done half a%%ed like many fed/state funded projects. I wish I could perform my as bad as that and still get paid

No Lenny I am not one of those people who go 15 mph...but I also do not speed. So when I see you sitting in a totalled car at one of those intersections. I'll just drive right on by and wave.....How does that sound. Have you even seen these intersections I am talking about. Cause if you haven't then you should really shut your mouth.

What changes are you referring to?

I remember local officials wanting access from Krocks and Mill Creek Roads, and Penndot incorporated it into the design. They built the new Mill Creek Road between Hamilton and Cetronia as a result. Also, comments from the public were incorporated in the environmental impact document submitted to the federal government. Many of these comments - pedestrian access across the Bypass, community access (i.e. signalized intersections), etc.- wound up being part of the project.

I am not sure all of them were made. But you have to keep in mind that all of them may not have been doable for various reasons. As far as I know, the ones that were feasible were done.

Sure, Mary, I enjoy every bit of life sitting in traffic. Doesn't everyone? Best part of my day. Especially when some idiot who has no particular place to go just lollygags around and causes me to be later than necessary, waste more gas, and pollute more. We build bypasses BECAUSE WE ARE IN A HURRY!!! Time is money. Why spend the millions on new roads otherwise? Your comments indicate that you believe just because it is the law that it is right. That assumes that PennDot is always proper and correct in their design and assessments and even if you just turned 16 I think you should know better.

Traffic tickets and citations are NOT money makers for the municipality or state. Any money taken in covers the costs of written and processing the citation. And if the driver goes to court, then the municipality actually loses money.
The whole point is to save lives. Almost 2/3 of the fatal traffic crashes involve speeding or aggressive driving. So if people slow down lives can be saved or at least crash can be reduced.
To me it doesnt matter if you agree with police being out there, just know why they are. EVERYDAY PEOPLE ARE INJURED OR KILLED IN ROADWAY CRASHES CAUSED BY SPEEDING. The police are out there to slow people down to stop these tragedies.
Oh Boo Hoo Hoo your commute took an extra two minutes, well thats the price you have to pay to avoid more highway deaths.
If you think ridiculas money makers, then you are WRONG and you need to pull your head out of your...

So by speeding you get there that much faster? Well I guess if I am a law abiding citizen I feel it is right. I have never received a speeding ticket or a parking ticket. Like I said...slow down and enjoy life...it is too short!
