I thought it may be fun for some of us old timmers to just write someting we remember about the "Good Old Days" Good or Bad
When the only car seat you had for your children was your arm springing out like a stop sign on a school bus?(Not a good thing as car seats save life just a memory)

What i liked was kindergarten. I had the morning class.( if memory serves me) We had to bring a blanket or a roll out mat to take a nap on. I think maybe school was 9:15 to 11:00 so why did we have to take a nap? We had milk and each kid brought cookies on a certain day. I like that cuz my Mom only bought salerno or swedish cookies. So i got a variety. We would visit or Grandma in the city. On the way home we would fight over who got to lay up in the back rear window of the car. We didn't have car seats. Mom would hold the baby or we would take turns.( much safer these days). Still like those naps and cookies.

I liked to look for bugs spiders and snakes in the many prairies. 107th & Moody, or behind what became White Hen ( Pantry) or by Stoney Creek. I'd put them all in a big jar. Lighting Bugs was also cool.Daddy Long legs.. What ever happened to Walking sticks? You don't see them anymore. Thank goodness we don't see those black garden snakes with that yellow stripe. You could find frogs in the ditches when it rained. If they opened the fire hydrant , you might find a rat or a fish. Bats came from the cemetery. UGFFKKKKugh!

I remember bail only being $25 for disorderly conduct. 6 pack of PBR was 99 cents. Sammy was king of Oxford, drivers license was optional, Cals, vomit freezing to my beard when I was 11, pool at Frenzels, Potpouri at OLOR, Thin Lizzy, Gas City. Now just for fun reread this with that Billy Joel We Didnt Start the Fire melody....Speaking of which, remember Birmingham praire would be set on fire like 3x a yr? Ahh the good ole days,

I loved the school hotdogs on hot dog day. I don't know why but they were really good. None of the Moms worked. You had to have a note if you had to stay for lunch. Hardly anyone stayed for lunch at school except on that day. We went home for lunch at 12 noon when Bozo was on. You knew when the bozo bucket game started it was time to head back to school.

Sad time was when Little Scott A. rode his bike to and found his way into an in ground pool and drown. I think he was in 1st-2nd? grade. It was only a few blocks away. He hoped a fence. The Fire fighters came and the one who jumped into to get the little boy was his own Dad. He was in my brothers grade. He was a nice little kid and was very friendly and well liked. Sad time in CR then.

The good old days for me was when my Grandmother would take the bus from Chicago to visit for the weekend. You could see her walking down the street shopping bags with goodies filled to the rim. We were poor and Gram never let us go with out. She came to the US from Germany a strong strong woman. Learned how to speak English (not like today) worked all of her life and was the best thing that happened in my life.

My Hero was Mr. Downey the school custodian. He would always whistle or sing when he came in the room. I was sitting in gym class with Mr. Kostas and was tired of doing the ' Go you chicken fat..go aaaawway- Go you chicken fat Go' gym song and decided to tie the feet of my Tights in a knot. As we got up to walk back to class, i kept falling farther behind.( i couldn't walk fast since the feet of my tights were tied together in knots) I tripped and sat down & the hall and almost started to cry. Mr. Downey was coming down the hall, whistling, and he untied my feet. I thought he was my Hero. He was also in the Oaklawn tornado. He saved a little kid from getting cut from glass when the Store window blew out on 95th street. Good ole Mr. Downey.

Yes, Mrs- Ms Czerobski ( sp?)Art Class. i liked her but she was 'hard cookie'. She liked to call all the girls 'blondie' never by their name. I think we called her Ziggie... but i think her brother played football for ND & that was his nickname. She left on un pleasant terms. I can picture her stapling the paper to the mini skirt. She was kinda fun, but then again it was Art Class. Did Ms B... high Math teacher really 'date' some of the local boys or was that just a rumor?

Who ever stole my little brothers Orange Krate Stingray bike in 1968, i want you to know i am still pi$$ed. It was parked in front of Verns V-Mart.( you know where you took it from). Do you know how many little brats i had to babysit to buy him a new one? Yes, he had a lock but i didn't know the combo. I only went in for a minute to cash in pop bottles to buy candy. I want the bike back! You were faster than the speed of light!

Did Verns have the tanks with the live catfish and lobsters swimming around or was that somewhere else ?
