I'm surprised to see they're doing this by seniority and not using this as an excuse to clean house of the problem officers.

Anyhow, there's 4 more unemployed people in our area thanks primarily to Lewistown Borough council.

The officers collective bargaining agreement (union contract) states lay-offs start at the bottom. The young, ambitious ones are gone. The dead-weight, lazy ones are staying.

As unfortunate as it is, this is the way most places operate. I wonder if the Borough will rescind its decision in the near future when their residents are in an emergency situation and the one police officer who is covering calls can't get there on time. This Borough Council is a joke. If I need an officer NOW and I have to wait an hour for help, I'm not suing the police department, I'm suing the Borough Council.

Typical Lewistown cheapness and narrow mindedness has caused this. They complain about rising crime, and they cut the police. The town is a joke.

I really don't blame the Council members, per se. They are simply responding to the will of the people and the "cut costs and never raise taxes" mindset.

If Lewistown is ever going to grow, this attitude needs to be buried.

This isn't about not having enough money to pay for the service. They have made that perfectly clear. They are putting their residents in danger, simply because they can. They want to start their own police department, but they WILL NOT spend the money that is required to do so. If they do pull out of regional, they will start a pathetic excuse of a police department and hire a bunch of part time idiots that don't know what the heck they are doing. Then MCRPD will be cut into about half, which will cause the other municipalities to suffer greatly. Then in 5 years, Lewistown will realize how superior and cost effective Regional is, and want to come back. If MCRPD survives the next few years, which I hope they do, Lewistown should not be welcomed back in. They are nothing but a problem child who cries when they don't get their way. I wish I was a Borough resident so I could go tell those people what needs to be done. Although, they don't listen to their residents anyway; now that I think about it.

As a Boro resident, I am sure that Frank his gang will see that they made a mistake but won't have the guts to admit it. Like the comment above, I hope they leave Regional and are refused when they realize their mistake. Sad part is, the citizans will be one to suffer.

You sound angry! Part time idiots...thats pretty judgemental and unfair.....MCRPD superior?!?! superior to what....I have lived in Lewistown my entire life and there were no problems with the Lewistown borough dept! Actually, it seemed to be more personal of a service.. The problems all started when they regionalized! Oh and I think that there are quite a few residents that are in support of this decision!

I AM ANGRY! Because of this bickering and nonsense, MY police service is going to be affected. When Lewistown eats up all of its police time, the officers from Derry will have to go into Lewistown Borough to back up the other officers or handle serious calls. Who do you think sucks that up? I agree that there was nothing wrong with the old Lewistown Borough Police Department. But the department that you are going to see emerge will not be a 17 man police department like the old one, with Bike, Foot, Roaming patrol officers and detectives. It will consist of several part time officers who have little to no training, who get paid peanuts and simply won't give a damn about doing a good job. You're taking a HUGE step backwards in the police world and making a huge mistake. I may be angry about it, but that doesn't mean I'm wrong. Wait and see.

How do you know so much about what the new police force will be like? You're destroying it before it even begins! You're also making judgements on officers you don't even know! And yes, you are wrong noone can predict the future... you just sound bitter!!

These are my predictions. You're right, maybe the Borough will spend the money they need to fund a police department that is better than Regional Police. Maybe they will spend the money to pay for West Enders sidewalk replacement. Or maybe they will be cheap like they always are, and try to spend less money on the police department and get crappy service. Maybe you're right. Maybe the Borough is going to change.

Ignore Yanks. This is the same exclamation-using Herkert-supporter thas has been chiming in on this issue since the beginning. The writing style is obvious. Very subjective, obviously for her man wihtout regards to what is smart for the boro. Typical resident. That is why the place is going downhill. Businesses have left in droves. What is going to make them stay now?

Excuse me..."HER" I think I could prove differently, you don't have a clue what you are talking about! You make no sense at all..Businesses left long before any of this mess, and what does that have to do with anything...do you think building on MCRPD is going to bring them back! Do you happen to be an officer, you sure are defensive, instead of offering a valid opinion!

Face it, Lewistown is going down the tubes because of stupid leaders. This is just one more nail in the coffin. Lewistown Boro has made a BIG mistake and it is getting very funny now watching it all play out. No matter what they do from here on out, it is going to be a disaster. They are stuck between a rock and a hard place. I do not live in Lewistown nor do I have anything to do with the police but those numskulls in that boro do affect my parter's business. Which, as a matter of fact, is seriously considering leaving the boro and relocating in Derry Township.

Lewistown has been going down the tubes for YEARS! But, if you want to start pointing fingers, why don't you start at the very top, way above any borough council members, remember the good ole boys of Mifflin County! Believe these few council members have higher up backing then you are giving credit for.
While you're researching , look at what downtown Lewistown was like before WALMART! Was this all be design!

There is a cabal. Its a big conglomeration that only Lewistown Resident is competent enough to see. It includes the Lewistown Sentinel and MCRPD working together to hide news from the citizens, the local police and government working together to try and keep communications off of the scanner so he can't hear what's going on, the county and state government robbing money from his paycheck and giving out to people in need of public assistance just to screw him over, the editors and staff of the Sentinel working together to try and abolish the Open Line just so concerned citizens like himself have nowhere to sound off. He was getting close to "outing" the Sentinel staff for what they were doing, but then the cabal stepped in and banned him from ever contacting the Sentinel again.

Hell, this cabal even includes Derry Township which went out of their way to secure grants to pay for sewer tap fees just so they could screw him over on something he paid of several decades ago.....now that's a dedicated cabal!!

Think that's bad? It isn't just local anymore, its starting to spread to a national level. Now even Bill O'Reilly is getting involved by personally hand selecting large, fancy-sounding words and passing them along to Milroy to post here in an effort to confuse and belittle Lewistown Resident, but rest assured, he's on top of it and won't be duped by the cabal!!
