I warned them young officers that Ferguson twp. in State College had a help wanted add in the Sentinel for Police officers to apply.

Maybe they can set-up a substation and provide service to Kistler. You sure could not run back and forth. They could apply for grants as long as the apple tree keeps producing. Milroy's trees seem to be in full bloom.

The quote from the union president said that the officers have been expecting this for months. Chances are good that the young officers are already looking elsewhere. If Lewistown Borough would just quit their whining and move on, none of this drama would even exist. I feel bad for the officers that came here to make this community safer, and now they are being cut for NO REASON. Even if the Borough was having a budget crunch, which they aren't, Police should be one of the last things to go.

Yes you are correct. Nelson is the only one doing his job as a Council Member. I don't know the names of the officers out there that want to make this community safer, but they obviously became police officers for a reason.

I find this really insulting. To a man they are trying to make the community safer.

They deal with the scum of the earth day in day out, irate people, dope fiends, an apathetic community, and directionless leadership. They do this for very little pay.

Are they perfect? Of course not. Are there motives always pure and altruistic? Like the rest of us, no.

By and large, these are quality people serving as police. I'm proud of these people, and glad they are doing their jobs.

Did you ever think it is because he is on the Board of MCRPD. The rest of the council menbers are not. Nelson is probably thinking from the inside out and the rest from what they need to do from the outside of MCRPD.

Rorschach, keep getting the truth out there. It is a battle against stupidity, narrow-mindedness, putting politics ahead of governing and the lack of a real newspaper.

Evil will spread as long as good people do nothing. Thank you for doing your part.

What Truth? Having an opinion that Lewistown Borough should stay with a high priced MCRPD. is not truth,it is an opinion. If that is truth then maybe the Sentinel poll 50% in favor of Lewistown forming its own, and 42% opposed must also be truth..

Did I read once or maybe a few times that Nelson was not representing the Lewistown Borough Council when he attended the board MCRPD board meetings on things that were already discussed and agreed on by the most members beforehand.

Do you remember just a few days ago when roundthebend was telling you about the attitude of the codes officer on the sidewalk issue, most people would agree that he needed to change it. Nelsons attitude is nearly the same when he says it's none of the public's business about the firing of the Chief. He is fighting an uphill battle to get people to agree with him. This may come from being on the MCRPD board that he would make those statements to the public, a control thing.

MCRPD is not over priced, they are a cheaper and more effective way of policing. Why do you think Lewistown went regional in the first place? TO SAVE MONEY!! Which is why they are trying to leave Regional. Because they are cheap . You people can't see passed your noses on this issue. Lewistown Borough is trying to screw its citizens. Now they are going to decrease the number of police hours even more and make you think that Regional isn't doing a good job. WAKE UP!!!!! The squeakiest wheel gets the oil by the way.

Hey Round the Bend. Officer Ettinger does all of the block watch meetings off duty on his own time, ONLY to make this community safer. I wouldn't take time away from my family to organize block watch meetings. Get a life jerk.

By the way bigshot, I am defending the idea that Lewistown is screwing themselves by wanting out, I'm just saying there aren't any police officers with much credibility to make these citizens want to stand up and defend their honor!

I dunno if he is from Mifflin County or not, but if so, he came back to Mifflin County to serve his community. "Roundthebend" what have these officers done to have you question their credibility? I've engaged several of them in conversation, all of which have been very professional and personal. I understand that there are still a few left from the "old school" way of doing things, but the majority of the officers out there are new and ready to do things the right way. I am very pleased and proud of the service that they provide, but then again, my municipality purchases the appropriate amount of service needed to cover the calls and have patrol time. I for one am in favor of patrol time; as it prevents crime. It's not rocket science. BTW I heard that patrol officers in Brown Township caught 2 people burglarizing the Bellvue. Another good job done by Regional Police.
