I wonder if when Lewistown starts its own Police force that MCRPD will have to turn over any of the police cars to Lewistown since they had police cars before they formed MCRPD.and they helped pay for those that regional has, maybe Lewistown will prefer much smaller and more efficient cars since their area will only be 2 square miles with 35mph being the highest speed limit.

35mph? How so? There are many places in the borough where it hits 45, and that's not counting highways passing through the borough with 55mph speed limits.

Anyhow, I'm sure that MCRPD "purchased" any cruisers they took possession of from the borough police force when it was formed.

Regional Police owns all of the equipment, not Lewistown Borough. That will be more of your hard earned tax dollars going to work when the Borough starts their shiny new police department. The cost to start a police department is astronomical. The cost to keep an efficient police department running is also through the roof. That's why they went regional in the first place. It's the cheapest and most effective form of policing for low income Townships and Boroughs. The idea is to pull everyones resources together to make one big, well funded, well trained and well staffed police department. And yes, Lewistown Borough is low income. Again, this will be a GIANT step backwards for policing in Mifflin County. I'm not even a rocket scientist and I get it.

Speaking of police cars, today on my way to State College I saw a rollback truck with a smashed up MCRPD car on it. It had the front windshield smashed and the roof over the front seat was smashed down some. It did still have a Municipal plate on it. The name on the side of the roll back was Boyer from Milroy. I don't know if this was from a recent accident or an old one . They did report once that they had a car that needed the engine taken out and put in another car, so maybe this is that one.

I think this is the one that got smashed by a run away horse on SR 655 a few months back. It was on the front page of the paper.

Could very well be the one,I remember that one on the scanner, it seemed to develop in slow motion but then turned into a more serious thing.

I remember a couple years ago when this same sort of situation killed a young lady. I don't think anyone got hurt during the horse v.s. police car accident though.
