I've seen this story posted over and over on various Minot news sites. They paid this company over a half million dollars to come to Minot, and then Minot leaders are acting like them coming into Minot is a gift from the heavens. This company is going to employee 80 people in about 3 years. As an oil company, they should not have needed tax payers moeny to expand in Minot. They should use their own resources if they are such a progressive company. I think Minot is just trying to give the impression that they are an oil company destination...and they will be, as long as they pay the companies to move in.But the taxpayers can only afford so much.

I had to laugh when I read that Tioga got so mad when the city of Minot leaders proclaimed themselves the oil capital of ND, now Tioga had the title trademarked for themselves. Pretty smart move on Tioga's part. Kind of put the arrogant Minot leaders in their place.

I have to agree with you Carol. I laughed when I read Minot was claiming this title. I think they just got caught up in the big Bakken announcement, and since the Williston Basin expo was being held in Minot this year, I suppose it was a good time to try promote Minot. Even though they are on the east end of all the activity. Oh well. Congrats to Tioga though:)

Having worked in Tioga for several years in the oil industry, I feel Tioga not only deserves, but earned the title of oil capital of North Dakota. After all the first oil well in North Dakota was drilled directly south of Tioga. Seem funny to me that more of the oilfield is located closer to Tioga and Williston than Minot, yet Minot wants to proclaim them selves the oil capital. It seems childish for Minot to try to make this claim. Sounds like a ploy to get all the oil business to pack up from where they are and move to Minot. Minot will find out what the boom and bust of the oil industry is like, and how people who seem to make the enormous oil industry wages have to survive with little or no wages when the industry is in one of its bust phazes.
Shame on you Minot for trying to oust Tioga of its namesake.

Amen Oil... I too think it is silly that Minot tried to do this...however, this article was posted clear back in 08'...Minot did see SOME oil companies open up shops (mostly satellite's of the bigger shops in places like Williston, Dickinson, etc...) Williston still pretty much has MOST of the oil service companies...Tioga still gets to claim the title "oil capital of ND"...Minot is a satellite community of the oil industry. Williston is still going crazy with new shops and buildings being built and opening up with new companies...despite the oil price drops...I think most know this is a temporary situation (for low oil)

Would anyone have a lead on abstractor, or landman positions in this area (i.e. Tioga or Williston or any other region)? I am a Louisiana guy, but I have family in North Dakota and would like to get up there for some time because my grandfather is ill. I have been an abstractor (patent thru present) for three years. Any lead would be greatly appreciated!!

I read in an old Minot Daily News, I think it was in March of 1928, that a well driller in the Williston area had discovered oil in a hole he dug way back then.

Twenty-three years in front of 1951.

A major oil deposit exists north of Minot in the Westhope area.

Make Divide County the Oil Capital of North Dakota.

Henry Bakken was from Divide County. Fair is fair.
