Greentown is no Mayberry, but it's close

Full story: Kokomo Tribune

We see each other all the time and shake hands. Patrolling the streets of Greentown is like walking through a neighborhood for town marshal Jeff Bennett. via Kokomo Tribune

Greentown is a dump. A tidepool where people with tiny minds flourish and those with a true sense of awareness of the world and intelligence leave. It is more political than anywhere I have ever known as you are an outsider unless it is where your great grandparents are from or you have some other such connection. As an outsider you are held back and held down by tiny minds that run the place. I only ever arrived at a true sense of this when I "escaped" to college and beyond.
I, for one, will never return to that hole in the ground that I climbed out of so many years ago.
For all of the bright youngsters that sense what I have written is true, my advice to you is thus,-- Run like the wind!!

I moved to Greentown 5 years ago, and I have experienced the things that you are talking about. But, I also believe that you can overcome that. My heart is and will be in this little town that has so much to offer. And when you leave,as I did, you really can appreciate the people and the town and the blessing that God has put on it.

Wow...I waited my whole young life to leave this place as well, but once I did, I realized that it wasn't the hell that I thought. Yes, ignorant people live there, as they do everywhere. But I have run across much "worse" people in other areas. I have lived in three different countries now (aside from the U.S.), and I have found that some of the things I found charming in those places also exist in G-town. Some of the things I despise in G-town exist in all of those other places. As for everything, you have to find your own way. I could never live there again, but it has more to do with size and lack of cultural activities, etc, than with the people. I don't think there are many places in the midwest that I would live, in fact. This is all for the reasons previously mentioned. You'll find that, wherever you go, there will be obstacles, you just have to be big enough to overcome them. Sometimes its the place, sometimes it is one unwillingness to get on in that place. When I first left, I had the attitude where I would look back and look down on the place and the people there, but I realized that that just made me a smaller person and just like the people that I despised.

Greentown is indeed very political. I don't know of a place that isn't. I did not grow up here, but moved here almost 6 yrs ago. It is a fantastic place to raise children. They grow up with a sense of community and peace. Greentown is not a cultural mecca, but that is why we travel. Our children have been to other countries and almost half of the states. They love to go, but also love to return. You can live or go anywhere & it's always about who you know or who you are. Hollywood is a classic example of that. One of the best parts of Greentown is that the schools are still intimate. The class sizes are small & the teachers cater to each child. The elementary school is nationally accredited. I love it here & appreciate the simplicity of it all. Life is chaotic enough.

Daily Horoscope for December 26

Sagittarius

Mercury turning retrograde in your house of finances carries a rather unseasonal message, because it's telling you to pay attention to your finances over the next few weeks. If you already know that you've overspent this month, you won't need to be told that a few economies are just around the corner. Get the facts straight and pay attention to the small print. You may also have to make some adjustments to an intimate relationship so it can move into another phase.
