Mister Tonka wrote: Alright, I did a web search on "re-homing" fees and feel a little better about the term. The explanations I saw focused on the idea that if you give a dog away for free, then you can easily end up with someone who wants to use the dog for animal testing or bait in a dog fighting kinda thing. But if you ask for money, that will weed out the people who are not really looking for a dog to have as a pet. I imagine some people still use it interchangeably with "sale price". I'm guessing the 7 yr old pug they can no longer keep, they want to make sureits well cared for. The puppies? I'm guessing its a for sale sign. It's semantics. Re-homing is just a new buzzword.

Mister Tonka wrote: We are rehoming our 7 yr old Male Pug he's fixed, great with kids, good with other dogs and even cats. Re-Home Fee 100.00 WTF? If you need to find a new home for a pet these days you're being told to NEVER give them away for free. Always charge a fee. It's to weed out those who would take pets to use for baiting fighting dogs, use them for target practice, or with smaller ones, feed them to snakes. I wish I could say that is all invented and silly, but unfortunately, it is not. Those sort of cretins are out there, and it's so much easier for them to fake "OOh I just love it! The kids will be so happy!" than to go out stealing them themselves. Plus, they don't have to worry about being caught in the act of abducting someone's pet.

Tonka:
1. Rehoming. I'm irked by used cars being called "pre-owned." THey're not "prior to having been owned," which is what "pre" means. "Pre" doesn't mean "previously," you gd salesmen! Grr.
2. I can udnerstand the "Rehoming" fee because, well... where I'm from, both in IOwa and MN, I have lived near veterinary programs at major universities, and they will cheaply buy kittens and puppies for experiments.$5/each. So these organizations charge money to avoid people who would take animals cheaply for less than animal-loving reasons.

Twice I"ve gone to someone's home to take a kitten or cat, with an agreed upon fee ($20 to $50) ahead of time, and once they saw me interact with that pet AND their other pets, they've waived the fee. It's a precaution.

Re: Social Media "check ins"
While I am not in the habit of "checking in" on facebook, I do understand why people would do so...when you are doing so from some place interesting. Like you are at a cool new bar. Or cheking out a new movie. Or having dinner at a nice restaurant. Cause these are things that you might actually have a conversation with someone about and the other person actually be interested to hear about it.
But the grocery store? My cousin just check in...from the grocery store. Really?

Heck, one night, friends posted on FB "checking in" from a neighborhood bar, and several other friends with nothing to do showed up and joined them! They said it was a good surprise and fun!

My doghound (and the other we couldn't keep)was supposed to have one, but the couple knew our friends well, so they just dropped it because they KNEW the hounds were going to a home. Oscar we found a great place with a boy of his own, and a mom that fell in love with him at first slobber.

Skyrim: I have been resisting that game.$60... I'll wait for it to come down in price in a year or two.
Cycle: Card games mostly. Euchre, cribbage, poker (just me and the computer, or online against people for fake money), and backgammon. I also paid $3 for looks to be a very good app for organizing info (I'd like to stop using so much paper at home for to do lists, music to look into, books to read, etc.).
I also use it as a camera, but it's kind of unwieldly for that (I need to get my camera out and charged).

Grrrr.... I hate drama... So lately I find I am always caught between these 2 mom friends that I like very much (both have daughters that are friends with my daughter). It's always something these days. So one mom invites my daughter to an event for her daughter's birthday celebration (they are doing something special in lieu of a party) and I agreed to it over a month ago. Now the other mom is having HER daughter's birthday the very same day. So the one mom is worried the other will be upset because her daughter wasn't invited to participate in the event and I know she'll be mad at me for having my kid go to the event instead of the party (I told her originally we'd go to the party before realizing it was the same day). I am holding my breath here waiting to hear a reply to my "no" response to the invite... Can't be in two places at once! But it's always such drama. I HATE drama!!!

Stina, can you just tell mom #2 "Sorry, but she already accepted an invitation for that day"?

I mostly want one for web surfing because the phone can be frustrating small for surfing the web. A lot of sites have apps or mobile versions, which make it easier, but it's still not that prevalent. If I get one, my kid will probably use it a lot for Netflix, so we don't fight over the TV. Depending on what you like to watch, streaming Netflix is not a bad deal ($8/mo).
