I'm wondering if the village is going to allow the so called "rat patrol" to disrupt the work at Memorial Park. They have set up the rat on village property and probably don't have a permit for the blow up or to solicit. They are also too close to the road.

If Evelyn Gleason hired contractors that do not employ some of the laid off union construction laborers in our town, they should put it up in her yard. I think it would look great outside the country club.

More power to them!! They have a reason to be there, if everyone wasn't so cheap and hired union workers, more men and women would be working right now!

Southtown story:

The sheeple of midlo should be used to not having access to their parks. Howie Minas field has been off limits to the folks in midlo forever.

Hey, doesn't the park dist. employees belong to AFSMCE??? How about a little union support brother Gillis?

Public disclosure has never been Evelyns' strong suit. Perhaps she could disclose the competing bids...if there were any.

I did not know that. Thanks. I will have to go over tomorrow and give them support. We do not need to see our (my) tax dollars paying for scab workers.

I agree about the workmanship. Many so called scabs use to be union workers but left because of the bs and high unemployment in the union. In the end all job sites have to follow OSHA, adhere to the same codes, pass the same inspections, and fulfill the terms of the contract.

Bottom line, this is America. Work and let work!!!

OSHA is rarely on any jobsite. A simple Google search will show you numbers saying that union work is much safer.

Some union workers have gone non union because of high unemployment within the union but I wouldn't classify that as "many" if the nonunion workforce.

Bottom line is most non union contractors charge almost the same as the union onea and taking into account a small or non exsistant benefit package they are paying guys about half of what they should make.

The owners make all the money and it leads to a large seperation of classes within the ranks. Also when the economy falters guys start working for less and less. Guys will walk in the door and say they will do the same job as the Guy they have for 5-6 dollars an hour less. That's dangerous.

As far as OSHA goes. It is fairly true they do not just go to job sites. Where I have worked for a while a (union) company required all workers to pass OSHA 10 and supervisors OSHA 30. Seems the instructor said generally they are called in for problems or incidents.

I am glad to work around qualified workers who know what to do in a professional way. I worked for a summer on the new tollway (355) and nice to not worry about drug heads working around me. We all did drug testing. And contrary to many we get a lot done. Yes we are not cheap and the bosses expect productivity. I have gone to jobs done by the so called scab comnpanies and we had fix their mess. And yes a lot of them (the workers) are taken advantage of. So keep the rat ready.

Really you really think just bcause you are in the union that you are better then the average joe?
How do you know that the people that are working there are losers ,dont you think that the contractors who are working for the park district are qualified to do the work, how do you know they dont drug test? or expect productivity just like any other company. Just because your in the union doesnt make you any better. Unions are not like they use to be years ago. Everyone deserves to work and get paid fairly.

Yeah but they don't get paid fairly. And they often don't get drug tested either. Drug testing in local unions was pushed by the insurance companies. A lot of non union building tradesmen don't even have insurance.

There are exceptions to every rule but generally speaking give me the Guy who has gone through a 4 or 5 year apprenticeship program, is drug tested, has an Osha card and was taught by journeyman who served an apprenticeship themselves.

The economy sucks. We need to get local folks working. If there's a big job in town we need to get our folks in on it. Remember "the Community Pride Built". Not " The community built the cheapest" Our local economy would benefit from paying union wages as we live here. The money would increase the local supply of cash. Any savings Evelyn believes she may realize, is a debit in our our community as a unit that can't measured. But she doesn't live on our side of town anymore.

So what scenario is better? Everyone working on the project is non union but lives in town or they are union but live in other towns?

What would be good is if we could get union people that reside in Midolothian to work for the same wages as non union people so the tax payers wouldn't complain about the work being done at a high cost.

Daily Horoscope for May 23

Virgo

You have a very high opinion of a certain person today, believing that they can do no wrong. But how realistic are you being? It looks as though you're viewing the world through rose-colored glasses, which is fine if it's only a temporary state but quite another matter if you're deliberately ignoring problems and pretending that they don't exist.
