"Personally, I think it is a good idea to have school uniforms, maybe the students will not worry so much about looking good for their friends and buckle down to learning.
My only concern is that in the poorer areas in this economy, parents may not be able to afford these uniforms and the government would have to subsidize this program. As we know, we have these large deficits without incurring any further expenditures. " Pamela Franklin has it all wrong. Uniforms are for just that purpose: to provide uniformity for students so the gang bangers can't tell one from another. It's a safety issue! What parents would spend on school clothes they will now spend on uniforms, and they should do it willingly. After all, how much is their child's life worth...and besides, it's the cheapest life insurance policy any parent could buy! |

11-06-09 LADN Kids on food stamps
REPLY: JOHN REYNOLDS of Canoga Park, you are breaking my heart with your "tax burden" excuse. Who do you think took care of those in need before we had food stamps? It certainly was not the Republican party. Do you think Liberals don't have pay taxes? AND feed their kids AND die in wars initiated by a Conservative AND contribute so that those less fortunate can eat? What America can really use is another Public Works Administration(PWA) to rebuild our roads bridges, dams ,forests, etc., AND the Civilian Conservation Corps. At the end of World War II, most of the legislation was still intact, and it remains the foundation for American social policy. It has helped millions of Americans from then and continues to assist millions today. We need to stop the insane amount of money spent on the continuation of death of thousands of Americans and civilians. AND engineered by a Republican, the invasion of two countries that WERE no threat to the United States. The only difference between what a Democrat and a Republican expect, is that the Democrat, understands the need to pay for it. ---------- XXX11-06-09 LADN -Can Obama clean up that mess? JACK SCHLICHT of North Hills writes, " Kyle Laurent mentions messes Obama has to clean up. It's impossible for me to see any previous "messes". REPLY: Then I must gather you really WERE "born yesterday". An old saw also and not obsolete either. |

FWIW, I will remind you that the Taliban and AQ remain responsible for the attack on 9/11 and must pay for it. Invading Iraq was a strategic blunder in my opinion, wasting time and resources that should have been devoted to defeating the Afghans once and for all.
Those who would let the attacks on us on 9/11 slide and advocate the removal of our troops from Afghanistan before AQ and the Taliban are defeated are cowards. The only way we will not be bothered by them in the future is to crush them now. When we defeated Germany and Japan, they were destroyed, there was no fight left. In Japan's case, it was their first military defeat in their history, they had beaten the Russians, Chinese, Koreans, French, Dutch and British forces that challenged them. The US destroyed them, and they have been docile ever since. Unless we likewise crush the Taliban we will never have a moment's safety afteward. |

Exactly my point. Afgans had nothing to do with 911. Saudis were the aggressor.

You are still missing the point. The Taliban governed Afghanistan at the time of the 9/11 attacks, and had for some years prior. AQ built up it's training and financial infrastructure inside Afghanistan under Taliban protection. They are one in the same, equally responsible for that attack. As far as I'm concerned the Afghans richly deserve destruction, they are a bunch of cut throats and liars. The group that has never paid, and should, are the Paklistani's, in particular the ISI. They created, financed and trained the Taliban and until the past few months, continued to suppor them against us. |
