This has gotten off topic. Here's the pic of the a-hole that killed Earl West. Here's hoping that he serves the rest of his life in prison!! prisonpenpals.com/48336.html

Tim's grandfather (my father) passed away in 1988 a free man. I have to say that I was also told that although Tim was involved in the crime, he did not do it, however in his mind he had to keep quiet to protect his family. I guess that being Tim's uncle, I am a bit prejudice, however he has served his time, is now a youth counselor, and should be left alone. Lord knows, he will have to llive with this for the rest of his life.

First off you really should get all your facts straight before you post a comment. Tims grandfather did not die in prison. He died in 1988 a free man, yes he was convicted of the murder of his wife. As far as them living in the house I do not know if it is true, I am related to them both but have never lived in the same town. My father did not want me to have any connection to them as he always said they were troublemakers. But my point is you cant judge every member of the family do to the actions of a couple family members. And in fact this was the second parole hearing that Tim has had, I was at the first three years ago and he was passed for parole. I was never told the real story about his crime and found out first hand at that hearing. I will admit that once I found out the truth I never talked to him again and refuse to every speak to him. I think he should remain in prison for the rest of his natural life. My mother lives in Arkansas City and I go there to visit, my point is that I have youg children and hate the fact that some small minded people might treat them badly simply because of there last name. They have only met one member of that family and she doesnt even have the Monasmith last name. So I hope that people will see this and think twice about treating someone a certain way because of there family.
DO NOT TELL ANYONE that you are related to this criminal. Be ashamed of him! Shame on you. He killed someone. GET REAL....HE KILLED SOMEONE. If he killed your child, husband, brother, or anyone....I do not think you would defend him like you do. SHAME ON YOU!!!!!!!!!!

I am the grandaughter of Earl West, YES his family is still alive. I have been to every court proceeding. To the brother Allen, get your facts straight! Tim Monasmith plead guilty to stabbing Earl West, he even went into detail about what happened. I remember, I have never missed a court date! Proof is in Tim's statements, on file, in court!! Public record. I will never miss any further proceedings for Tim Monasmith. YOU CAN COUNT ON THAT!!! Allen you said "eye for an eye," I agree completely!
Don't think I forgot about John Gibson either!

Well I am the grandaughter of Earl West, & I really don't believe stabbing an elderly man 21 times is little. Have you had someone murdered in your family that you were close to?

Jack, I too am completely prejudice, since I am a relative of Earl West. I know you are Tim's brother, & I understand what you are trying to say. However, I do not agree with you. Tim did have a huge part in the killing of my Grandfather. Allen wrote "eye for an eye." Tim was Earl's neighbor & knew my Grandfather well. Tim was the one that knocked on Earl's door, & tricked an 82 year old elderly man into opening the door. My Grandfather, as sweet & trusting, knew Tim & wanted to help him out.Tim said he needed to use the phone. The only reason why my Grandfather opened the door,& let "them" in, was to help Tim. Then from there, well you know how it ended. Tim was also responsible for killing my Grandfather.Tim Monasmith stabbed him too! That is why Tim is in Jail, not because he had to keep quiet for the safety of his family.

Who are any of us to say what is right or wrong?
What does anyone know about what really happened and why but what we have "heard" and have been told.
Take care of your own and leave everyone else in piece. Good Grief. He has paid his dues per mans rules, Everyone deserves another chance.
Correct me because I could be wrong, but the fact that he was up for parole means he's not fully "paid his dues" but seeks to get out early.

You are exactly right he has not paid his dues, as a matter of fact no inmate has until they suffer the same fate as the victim of their crime.
Kansas as well as every state need to really get tough on crime, we are running daycares for adults. The inmates get better health care and better treatment then the employees Guarding them.
The punishment must fit the crime, and murder must result in the Inmate giving up their life for taking a life.
I am a Special Security Officer for the State of Kansas and a family member of Tim Monasmith. All I can say is that I use the term family member very losely, I have nothing to do with him and never will. I used to until I got the full story of the crime Tim committed, from the time I learned the truth I have refused to recognize him as a part of my family.
I know this may not mean anything to some, but to the family of Tim's victim I am truely sorry for your loss. There is no way I can fully express how sorry I am that my cousin took the live of your family member.
